    Coolant Bleed - 1996 Cabrio

    Hi Guys,

I decided to replace my expansion tank, as it was a bit tatty and falling to bits. I flushed the system and filled it back up with coolant, but now i think i have a small air lock, as i the temperature rises above the usual 90 degrees, gets to the 100 degrees- ish, which it wasnt before i decided to flush the system.

Does anyone know what the proper bleeding procedure is? or how to go about it?

    Many thanks in advance

Not sure which engine you have but this method works on most. Remove the reservoir screws and hold it up as high as you can with cap upper most. Remove the cap and run engine on tickover whilst squeezing the bottom hose. Hopefully, it will burp.

Thanks Dave, yea sorry I should have mentioned, its the 2.6 V6 engine ABC. by bottom hose, you mean the hose on the radiator or on the reservoir?

      Cheers

If you can reach it, the one on the radiator. A bit tight on the V6 from memory.

ok great, ill come up with some contraption to hold up the reservoir, then it should be easier to squeeze the hose. Thanks for your help.

There'll likely be a bleed point where the heater hoses go through the bulkhead ?, as Dave says raise the reservoir, run the engine whilst the cap is off until the 'stat opens should purge any air out.

Did some digging on the web, there is a bleed screw, just by the temp sensor. looks like a 5mm allen key. but i think daves method might be better as it seems quite low down.
