Where was the car based? If it's on the salt covered roads of the UK then they will be corroded and stuck fast.

no salting the roads on the Natal North coast South Africa Just the salt air spray from the sea.

Try using a penetrating spray every day for the week before you start the job.

Doing this for the first time on a 10 year old B8 S5 in North East Scotland was probably the worst job I've ever had to do on a car

The force is strong with that bolt. I've maxed a 10 ton press out and it still would not shift. With the press maxed out I got some heat into the housing and finally gave way with one hell of a bang, scared the **** out of me.
