I had a chap over today to give the alpinweiss a good machine polish. He was here all day and it's a lot better than it was and I'm happy with what he's done, it looks great
yeah thats looking great Andy - so difficult to get a white car to show the effort put into it too...try taking some when the sun is going down and a bit closer and they will look spot on
Just reminds me how cr&p my paint is at the moment
Yeah, there's a real gloss to the top layer but there's just too much work there to get the reflections pin sharp on the base, it's respray time really (if I want her to look her best, no point for as long as I like track days or weekend thrashes TBH as it'll just get ruined in 5 mins.
Here's a couple more (I've got loads but the light was too strong for my compact camerol really):-
In fairness to me and the car, when I got her she was in decent shape, I looked after the bodywork on and off and made sure that I was proud when taking her to (at least local) shows. In 2007 the track bug got the better of me so I was more interested in spannering than polishing and track days take a bit of a strain on the wheels and various parts of the body, as they get covered in molten rubber, molten brake pad and peppered with any dust / stones thrown up by the car in front. Having been ill since 2008 I've only been able to sort out basic maintenance on the old girl, polishing has been very much off the agenda.
Products (cutting compunds anyway) were Menzema, wax was Swissvax (he couldn't find the one he was supposed to use!).
The guy used the following methods (that I saw / can remember, it was a long day!)
Degrease
'Soap'
Power wash
Dry
Tar & glue remover (paint was too far gone for claying)
Paint cleanser (applied with mop)
Light cutting compind (applied with mop)
Paint finishing compound (applied with mop)
'Soap' / wheel cleaner
Power wash
Dry
Wheels dressed
plastic lightly dressed (I did this again as it was dried out)
Wax applied (swissvax)
Wax removed
Glossing agent added
The guy that did it was please with what he had achieved in a day but had understimated the size of the job and ran over his expected finish time somewhat. He said that he'd have really wanted to spend a week or so on the car and it could have been perfect but I just can't justify that kind of money on something that is there to be driven and on which the paintwork just isn't that great anymore (arch rust, bonnet chips, roof leading edge rust, door trim perishing etc. etc. all the usuala S2 problems... It's not that bad, just lots of little areas like many on here I'm sure).
