Sadly the time has come to find a good home for my 1994 S2 Avant.
I bought the car from another forum member back in 2012 and had a great time owning the car and used it fairly regularly up until covid in 2020. Since 2020, however and changing to working from home etc, it sees little use and only gets the odd venture out now and then. I would really like it to get her into the hands of someone on this forum ideally..or any other Audi enthusiast.
This car has been brilliant for me during my ownership, however, time has taken its toll on various aspects of the car and hopefully someone can take it on and give it the attention it properly deserves.
The good stuff:
1994 Audi S2 Avant in Volcano black
No modifications expect for a replacement cat back exhaust after the original eventually failed
3 spoke non-airbag steering wheel
Carbon trim
No sunroof
MOT until June 2025
2 keys
The car has been driven gently in my ownership (I believe the term is mechanical sympathy..)
Aside from the usual.. from memory and skimming quickly through the invoices the car has had:
2024 - New Bosch S4007 battery
2024 - Crank position and engine speed sensors replaced. New relay for electric windows - Both obtained from Pete, Quattro Corner
2023 - New rear discs, pads & calipers
2023 - New 4 x Continental ContactSport2 tyres
2022 - MAF replaced (second hand unit) and new Lamba sensor
2022 - Power steering pump rebuilt by local specialist
2018 - Timing belt & water pump done
2018 - New main radiator (was very hard to find and eventually got one from Quattro Corner), new aux radiator (via random motorsport firm in Germany) and replaced main coolant hoses plus expansion tank.
2018 - Clutch slave cylinder
2018 - Ignition amplifier replaced
2017 - Cat back exhaust from Infinity Exhausts Bristol
2013 - Clutch replaced
17 stamps in the original Audi book up until I took it on and ever since then I've collected a fairly substantial stack of invoices.
The bad (apologies for the information overload..):
The odometer on the car reads 149,940 miles and has been this way since late 2018. The clutch slave cylinder failed on the car and after a new one was sourced I used a mobile mechanic to replace it on the car (as it was on the roadside outside my house with the clutch pedal stuck to the floor). Unfortunately while this was being done, working from the top down to fit, something happened which I assume is with the cabling near the gearbox and as a result the speedo doesn't function correctly (it moves but can be erratic / very inaccurate) and the odometer hasn't ever moved since. The rev counter on the car works normally however. I did intend to get this fixed, but I wasn't particularly in a rush as I always felt the car was going never going to be sold.. time rolled on and it's never been looked at. Looking that the mileage covered when I was actively using it I averaged ~3500 miles a year.
MOTs in my ownership show mileage as 2012 = 128,239, 2013 = 131,933, 2014 = 135,857, 2015 = 138,871, 2016 = 142,451, 2017 = 145.367, 2018 = 149,113, 2019 - 149,940. Due to the lack of use since 2020, I'd estimate the mileage to be somewhere around 155k due to the lack of use.
The car didn't have the after-run pump installed when I bought it and has always run this way. About a month or so ago the '324' control module from under the drivers kick panel failed resulting in the usual symptom of the cooling fan spinning forever. I haven't been able to source a replacement so I bought the correct diodes to attempt to fix it, but haven't attempted the repair yet on the module. I've since found the main fan kicks in and out just fine on the thermoswitch as-is so have left the 324 module unplugged currently.
Headlining needs doing, as does the door card material (glue failure)
The car is quite noisy from cold (sound very much like the aux belt or related, haven't had a chance to investigate further), but once the car has been running a while this settles down and is no longer heard.
Early in my ownership while parked in the work car park, it unfortunately got reversed into damaging the rear bumper and light cluster. Both were repaired under insurance at Brin Jones, Bristol with a new bumper being fitted.
Could do with the dash dimmer switch and instrument cluster attention as the lights behind the dials on the cluster & dash are very dim.. If you twist the dimmer to brighten, they brighten but then go off immediately. If the lights are set very dim they remain on. Hasn't been investigated any further.
A/C doesn't work (but the buttons are there!)
Heater on maximum heat gives mildly warm air temp, probably needs a new heater core or possible air in the core causing this?
Rear bumper plastic on drivers side scratched against a wall (see photos)
Small rust spot on front passenger side wing. (see photos)
Usual rust bubbling/spot on bootlid (see photos) - I had a quote of £450 to repair all three bodywork issues above.
Paintwork needs attention, but she does clean up nicely.
The original wheels could certainly benefit from a refurb.
Drivers seat base has a slight wobble / movement in it, probably a simple fix but haven't looked into it.
Rear passenger side door doesn't open from the inside. Unsure of fault and hasn't been investigated. Opens fine from the outside.
Needs the main interior light replacing (ebay £50 or so) as the original came loose recently due to the headlining
Two of the VDO gauges are starting to peel, one significantly, however the VDO gauges work fine. Very slight initial peel on Speedo clock, trip computer LCD was working but over the years it started to show a 'leak 'that grew and grew across the display and its now no longer able to be read.
I will upload some photos over the weekend. Any questions, please ask.
Price is reduced to £5500 and the car is located in Bristol.
