Will take diesel in part exchange.

If it's not gone in two weeks, then this time it will definately be going into storage!

Slight change of plan, although the car is still going into storage if not sold soon.

**Spoiler and wheels sold pending payment.**

Reasonable offers now considered on the right side of £9K.

Steve, without having viewed the car I cannot fathom why this hasn't sold?? Having spoken to you about the gearbox and your Quattro over the phone a few times you're clealy the kind of person you'd want to buy an RS2 from.....and in Polar Silver too...the market must have gone totally dead.

                Hi Tom,

The market has indeed gone extremely quiet. No one has even been to look at the car or make any serious enquiries. It is as described and there is nothing wrong with it. In comparison to the other two as advertised on Pistonheads, it's a bargain.

                I've had a few offers...............but I'm not taking 7K for it.

At present it's in storage until early next year which by then it should fetch £9K+, which again is not a lot of money in comparison to to the ohers out there. Maybe I should put it up at £12K?

Have to admit I'm not really looking for an RS2, if it was nearer to me maybe I'd take a look, and if I liked it maybe I'd buy it, but I wonder why it hasn't sold ?, are the prices still on the slide when people talk about them being worth more in parts ?. Some say they're expensive to run is this just fuel or are they high maintenance comparable to something like a B5 RS4 for instance ?.

i really dont find my rs2'd coupe any hassle at all (he says touching wood)
they are so reliable, petrol wise i easily get 30mpg on a motorway run if i stick to 70.with the price of diesel at the mo its as economical as my zafira dti. yes that does 50 mpg but the fuel costs a bomb! £1.40 a litre down here

maintenance wise i can count the times ive lifted the bonnet this year on one hand.never uses oil or water.starts on the key etc.too many people swap and change mods and this just limits reliability imo

It's not sold because no one has come to look at it.

As they say '1st to see will buy' and at this price you could afford to run it for a while and then sell it and get your money back.

I think the biggest issue is that the cars have a small market, thus the "value" being what someone is willing to pay for it will fluctuate. When someone wants a good example and is willing to pay the right price, then it'll sell. If I were looking for an RS2, I would have looked at this one, and been willing to pay £10k for it. But I already have one now, so I'm not.

Point being, there's alot more of us not looking but that would buy for a real knock-down price - seeing as Steve is willing to put it in storage, I wouldn't be letting it go at 'steal' price myself. The right buyer will come along at some point and if the car is in good shape, which I'm sure it is, they'll snap it up.

I don't know why these cars are known to have expensive running costs. I can only assume its the upgrades as they will suck your bank dry. Compared to B5 2.7TT costs these are cheap as chips!! Certainly it's going to need more preventative maintenance than a newer car, but with exception to a few extortionate parts it's all pretty reasonable. Servicing is cheap and easy to do at home. Seriously - having run 2 S2's and an RS2 - their essential maintenance costs are similar to my 2002 golf TDi; running the Golf saved me about £5,000 of fuel in 3 years but it also depreciated £2,500 vs £250 in the same period on my old Avant...

For such a rare and iconic car, well serviced and in good cosmetic condition, £9-10k is a steal! £7k would be criminal - hell, I'd raise on that offer myself and I already have one

OK, I'll rephrase, why do you think no one has been to see the car ?. Your point about getting money back on the car is relative to price, anyone with that idea is probably thinking it's going to be hard to get £9k back with another owner and more miles on it, just my opinion, good luck whatever you decide.

You get 30mpg on a motorway run???? Are you serious? My long term MPG (according to the OBC) is 19.6...I've never seen it hit 30mpg when in motion

As for costs of keeping it on the road, I've owned mine 2.5yrs and have spent about 5grand on it (including consumables) and that is being very careful sourcing parts and finding a specialist with reasonable labour rates. Don't forget though that zero depreciation and classic car insurance/low road tax make this a very attractive proposition.

I like the look of Steve's though and would echos the thoughts of Ross, if I was looking for one at the moment I'd been round there taking a look. At least if money did need spending you are starting off at a low purchase price.

I did take mine out last night though round the country lanes and for a blast down the motorway and I genuinely can't think of a car that I'd want to replace it with for the same money, it's an animal when you open it up

Wheels sold and paid for. Some guy is coming from France on Sunday to collect them.
