Hi,
The time has come to put my cabriolet up for sale. Since finishing the "project build" I've not used the car at all really, had 1 year since I bought the car in 2009 that I actually drove it. I would like it to go to another Audi enthusiast that will appreciate the time and effort that has gone into building probably one of the highest spec'd and rejuvenated Cabriolets in the country.
A little history...
The car was bought as a 1998 final edition 2.8 auto in aluminium silver with black Recaro leather interior and a huge option list. The car had an extensive history and was repaired with no expense spared. As with most of these cars although the mechanical running is maintained the cosmetics are left to degrade with the years. The car had run up an amazing 230K miles, probably unheard of for a 2.8 petrol cabriolet. I believe the car was used by a previous owner to regularly commute to up to Glasgow from the home counties in England.
The original 2.8 motor was still super smooth but the autobox was starting to show signs of wear with not being able to hold onto gears, the suspension was soft and bouncy but the interior was in good condition and all the electrics worked apart from the usual electric hood mechanism.
The car as it is today...

The original 2.8, 12v engine has gone along with the automatic gearbox replaced with an AAH 2.8 30v 193 PS (190 HP) and a cabriolet V6 manual gearbox. All equipment for the conversion was taken from a 2.8 coupe including pedals, clutch master and slave cylinders and gear linkage.
The exhaust is a cat-back Jetex system. The downpipes have been custom fabricated to fit the 30v engine and are fitted with new lambda probes.
The engine has been treated to new steel head gaskets (the 2.8 uses the the S4 biturbo gaskets), head bolts, all new 30 valve stem seals, new valve cover gaskets, a new sump pan and all the service items that a V6 requires.
The chassis was treated to an H&R Cup suspension kit of sports shocks and lowering springs. ALL suspension bushes including the rear axle bushes have been replaced by Powerflex polyurethane bushes, the front subframe has new mounting bushes and the shocks have new "green" top mounts. There are new drop-links and anti-roll bar bushes.
The front brakes have been upgraded to Ford Focus RS mk1 324mm discs and matched to 4-pot Brembo calipers from a BMW 740i which incidentally uses 324mm discs. The calipers are mounted on custom steel brackets. The hoses are Goodridge stainless steel.
The wheels are Keskin KT4 in 17" x 8.5" with Khumo 17-245-45 on the rear and Goodrich 17-225-45 on the front.
The front bumper is a Rieger RS2 made of ABS plastic mounted onto an original Audi cabriolet mounting frame from a final edition bumper so it had the proper rigidity of the original with original fixings for the foglights and indicators. Brand new glass lenses have been purchased for the headlights, note these are the original halogen and have not been converted to aftermarket Hid/xenon.
The interior includes electric and heated black leather Recaro front seats, original Audi premium sound system with amplified speakers and subwoofer. Autocheck and trip computer are included as is the rare option of cruise control and headlight wash. The original manual air conditioning has been upgraded to automatic climate control as featured in the Audi A4, A6 and others of the same period, during the conversion a new heater matrix was fitted. The A/C is a fully working system with most of the components coming from a 2001 A4. The original Audi Delta head unit is fitted with the 6-disc multi-changer in the boot.
The electric hood has been treated to new boot hinge looms and a new rear window, the fabric looks like new and the whole folding/opening operation is how it should be as described in the owner's manual.
The hydraulic brake system has been replaced with a pneumatic system as used on the Audi A4 so no worries with the hydraulic "bomb" issues and leaks often associated with the V6 braking system.
Bad Points? Well although the car drives like new and looks nice in the pictures I will do my best to describe the points that you can't really see. The front nearside wing has been repainted but the silver is slightly darker in my opinion. There are the odd stone chips and there is a minor ding on the offside rear quarter, you would miss it if not pointed out. The passenger door has a slight dent in the rear lower corner, it has been massaged out as much as possible but there are still traces as it was difficult to remove being right in the corner of the door. The car has just passed the MOT last weekend and two advisories were given; a stonechip in the windscreen "less than 40mm circle outside zone A" and "oil leak" the leak was traced to an engine breather tube that had split coming off the valley pan and oil residue had run down the side of the gearbox.
As I no longer use the car it has no tax and on SORN but I'm willing to put 6 months tax onto the car as a condition of sale.
Price? I'm open to offers, starting at £3200.

V5C document now records the car as a manual and the new engine number has been updated.
Other details - the gearshifter has a short-shift fitted and has nicely tightened up the Audi sloppy feeling gear shift. There is a ski-bag in the rear armrest. The interior trims have the 3M carbon covering. The instruments have chrome trim rings. A new electric aerial has been fitted.
There is a huge file of service history and all the Audi documents are present.
What you see in the photos is what's being sold. I would like to keep this as a "for sale" discussion rather than a technical discussion or how-to thanks people but any question related to the sale will be answered.
