Should a CQ of this vintage not have the 4 rings along the sides? Respray maybe?
Not mine but i'm tempted

Go for it, they are a lovely drive, although not as fast as the turbo, they are still fun and more than adequate for daily driving.
I drove one many years ago when I had my UR (a mate had the standard Quattro) and it was just as good really, just under rated and over looked because of the arches and no turbo.
Less to worry about and it has probably been driven sensibly most of the time.
Much more interesting than a modern Audi and proper 4WD too!
plus very cheap insurance

Ok, so my age has caught up with me. Decided I need 40mpg+ for a daily and a boot for the golf clubs/fishing and shooting kit and trips to Scotland for the golf. I tried half a bottle of Rioja to see if that would make me call the chap but it didn't. A4 Tdi Quattro here I come, sigh!
I also went out for a blast earlier in the S2 and dusted 115 miles of fuel whilst only covering an actual 22miles somehow. Decided I have enough gas guzzling capability in my life already. Somebody go buy this car, it looks great. Monkey said it was up for sale sometime ago. He might take £2.5k for it.Comment

I'm richer Rocco now that I don't have to put fuel in another 5 pot ha ha. Local supermarket has El Pinsapo for less than a fiver. The bottle is now empty and nearly bedtime but there was a weather delay in the PGA Championship, so looks like bed will have to wait a little longer.Comment

I sold my 2004 sport GMBH 1.9 tdi avant to buy an 06 A3 S Line TDI with leather/alacantra earlier this year. What a mistake the A3 is a money pit. A4 was far more reliable practical and comfortable.
One good thing about the A3 though it does 58/61 mpg consistantly.Comment

Cheers guys. Anything over 40mpg with 4WD sounds good to me.
I have been told to avoid the 2.5TDI's and stick with the older 1.9TDi's and you guys seem to back that up. I will have £3-4k to spend, so sounds like I wont have too much of a problem finding one. I have plenty of time. My current daily is ok but just tired and I can see it needing too much work for its age come MOT time (Dec) In no mad rush but if I saw a good one at the right money, I would buy it now. Also looking forward to having a working boot ha ha. One of the hydraulic struts sheared off mine a while back. Never got round to sorting it out. Makes for funny looks as I try and remove fishing rods and golf clubs from the car.Comment

I can't see the point of the extra alleged power with 2.5 personally it felt no quicker.
I sold mine for 4k and she was mint running on bbs ck,s with rs4 carbon trim interior leather alacantra from a b7. you'll easily get one for 4k. Great cars.Comment
