Audi S4 1994 L Reg Spairs or Repairs

    Volcano Black, estate manual gearbox.

Car has done approx. 135k, had clock change so shows 58k, but judging from the service history I reckon it has done about 135k

Lots of paperwork and bills will this one.

It has bad boy bodykit on it!
Straight through 4" stainless steel exhaust (no Cats)
    Cone air filter
    Quattro cloth seats

Electric seats, sunroof, cruise etc etc. All works apart from rear near side electric window.

    Car runs and drives but:

It has failed the MOT mainly minor things:

The mot revealed this, most of which I understand is quite minor: MOT Dated 20th August 2013

    Failure Items:

Emmissions, presumably because of CAT removal
    Rear registration Number Plate missing
Offside side repeater missing (It is in the car though  )
Nearside front side repeater insecure (!)
Nearside front side repeater incorrect colour
    Nearside Headlamp aim too low
Nearside windscreen wiper does not clear the windscreen effectively
Offside front (Outer) CV Joint gater damaged
Both inner joints excessive play detected at the steering wheel
    Service brake efficiency below requirements
    Parking brake efficiency below requirements
    Registration Lamp bulb not working

Car has been stood a while, but body work is very good, apart from bumpers which are aftermarket and not to everyones taste!

Has 18" alloys which need a refurb and one tyre deflates slowly but are all legal.

    £1k

Considering breaking at the mo, but if someone wants it whole before it goes into bits let me know could be a very nice car with a little TLC as engine runs and car drives fine.

Was planning on getting this car back on the road whilst mine was being restored, but my car (S6) is currently in the garage still after 5 weeks and I don't know if it is coming back so restoration is on hold and I cant justify spending any more money on these cars at the present time as the wife is getting sick of them!

    Car is in Bournemouth

              Well done mate!

I guess this means you don't have the spare wings anymore?

This'll save you a lot of hassle and time breaking though, gotta ask yourself though have you sold yourself short....?

£1k for that description sounds about right IMO, having not seen pics it's difficult to say though.

Another plus is £1k to go on the S6

Thanks, I still might have wings, hopefully finding out tomorrow if my S6 is terminal or not.

The thinking currently is that it has had a wiring meltdown and that might spell the end of that car too...

I am very sad about the whole thing as it is the death bell for my interesting car ownership.

Been let down by a number of people too and looks like everything will be for sale soon...

It may not be the end depending on whats melted and where you are, there are people on the forum that are great with wiring and for some people on here swapping over the loom isn't a biggy! It may be worth enquiring once you fond put more s2central and tonks are the lads for the job, if they want it that is....

I may need other parts from the S6 but we'll see how things go.

What I was meaning about selling yourself short is, you advertised the S4 at 0930 for £1000 and it was sold at 1530 the same day!! I'm just wondering what that says about the value of s4's / s6's....

Freind of mine rings me up saying he has just been pissed around on the sale of an old local s4, saw the ad this morning and knew it was my old car. The PO to me put the gary bumpers on and used the car for track days. It has had a full paint but wasn't of very good quality and was a custom shade of black making repairing paintwork very difficult.

Mainly though, what worries me is the fact that in both the cars last for sale ad's

It seems to have lost the fact the gearbox whines in 1st and 2nd. Classic S4 problem and apparently the current owner knows nothing about despite driving it in for an MOT?

                      Umm

I didn't piss your mate around:

He phoned me about the car, I had a lot of calls about (6 different people) and your friend was one of them, we arranged for him to come and view tomorrow, no sale agreed in advance.

Chap who, incidently, spoke to me before your friend, came this afternoon and has agreed to buy.

I phoned your friend to tell him so as to save him a journey and he was very rude indeed before hanging up.

At the end of the day, I had a lot of calls and chap who came today was first to come.

That is the end of that.

Re the gearbox, I am not aware of that problem, I haven't driven it far and I didn't spank it anywhere, but I am seeing buyer tomorrow and I will tell him your concerns and we will test the car and go from there.

Personally I think the paintwork is very good and wish my S6 had this paintwork, it certainly came up well when I polished it. (apart from the bumpers)

I don't understand your point about the last for sale ad,

At the end of the day the car is a nice car and I wanted to save it from being broken.

It needs a little work to make it good which I think is reflected in my original opening post.

My point is simple - the car was for sale cheap, then disappears. Now it comes back on the market at double the price with an MOT failure sheet of very minor items. Failure’s that even if you didn’t know anything about cars (as you claimed to my friend) and even if you were paying full price at a garage, wouldn’t cost much to fix at all…

If that isn’t suspect enough you’ve now denied knowing about any gearbox noises, or paint issues.

What I know is that is the type of noise that would come up on any short journey, even if you want to claim ignorance to having any car knowledge. It would come up as soon as you pulled away, whether you have “spanked” the car or not. I would hear it go past my house, louder than the sound of the straight through 3” exhaust.

The paint may come up ok with a polish, but give it a month or 2 it’ll go back to being dull. When did you say you had the car MOT’d again?

At the end of the day, you’re clearly trying it on. If you haven’t got any car knowledge, and can’t even be arsed to spend £150 getting an MOT, what are you doing trying to “save” a car? No, you’re trying to double your money on a dog you’ve bought in the hope someone doesn’t come and test drive the car. Then when someone does (IE my friend) you quickly sell it to the next guy who’ll turn up with a trailer.

It’s usually easier not to bullsh*t your way through a car sale.

Okay Phil, (assuming that is your name), I am happy for you to raise your concerns re the car, but I am not happy at the accusations above, I will explain the points above and politely ask you to refrain from posting on this thread and ask you post on a separate thread:

Yes I put the failure sheet in the original post, I know it wont cost much to fix and have stated that. The car had a very thorough MOT as can be seen from the items picked up. It comes with a replacement ball joint and gator too.

The car did not disappear, I bought it and said so on here quite a few times and the reasons for me buying it. Please read my project through (or all my posts) if you need to understand why I am selling the car.

Re the purchase price I paid, I paid £500 for the car, got it towed £200 put it through an MOT £50, put petrol in it £20, put a battery on it (the one it was knackered) £70 and spent a weekend cleaning it and was offering it with a replacement original S4 bumper which I bought of a nice chap on here for £75.

I have agreed to sell it for £900 as the chap who saw it today was nice and seemed like he wanted to put it back on the road which I would encourage.

I told the chap who came today I paid £500 for it so I am not trying to pull the wool over any ones eyes.

I don't think the paint is a problem and showed it to the would be buyer too, so I don't know what the issue is there? I polished it in August and it has been sat since, when I wiped the dust off it still looked good.

I genuinely don't know about the gearbox noises, I honestly didn't notice anything wrong with it, but as before I am going to be telling the would be buying and we will test it. If it is bad then we will talk about it, cant be fairer than that.

But then I thought the exhaust wasn't too bad noise wise?!

End of August as in the OP

This is clearly just silly and I don't know how you are getting this conclusion.
The car owes me a fair bit as above and in other posts as well as this I have clearly explained my position with my other car. I don't think the car is a dog at all and it is worth a lot in bits all day long as you would know. In fact I have had offers for bits nearly totally my selling price without selling the engine or gearbox. I have spent a lot on my S6 and have about £3k worth of spares in my garage which were due to go on to the resto of my S6.

I don't need your abuse thank you, I have honest reasons for sale and have been honest with the buyer and he seems like a nice chap and is local to me and I hope to see him and the car again.

Having not seen the car or know anything about other than what I've read here, you can't really go too far wrong for £900...as said breaking it would recoup that if all else fails!

I mean its a second hand car, how bad paint is is an opinion - some people think things are fine where others would think it was awful, if the buyer looks at it, test drives it and is happy and buys I don't see the problem....

I think this has gotten a bit silly tbh!

I am just trying to save the car from being broken,

If anything comes out tomorrow when it gets running again I will review with buyer.

I am going to be cleaning the car tomorrow and will take some pictures of it, whether it sells or not and post them up.

I am just hoping my S6 is not terminal, should find out tomorrow, as it really is the death of a dream for me if it is terminal. Some things I cant explain here at the moment.

I am certainly not afraid to spend money on my cars,

                              My MG is for sale:

                              http://www.pistonheads.com/classifie...--2004/1777866

Ive just spent £400 on it getting it fully serviced and inspected for hopefully a new owner.

                              The S4 is for sale:

As on here due to the failure of my S6 and my plans to make that a mint car failing disasterously and at great expense.

The S6 may be for sale:

As a spares or repairs, depending on the outcome of tomorrow.

I therefore have three, two I cant use and the third (MG) is polished up ready for sale

I walk to work, have a small driveway and have no mechanical knowledge as some on here will vouch for

I have the dream, but sadly not the ability and having spent:

£7k plus lots on the MG (plus the cost of the car £7k)
£2k on the S6, plus £1k in servicing plus £350 on tyres plus £300 on wheels, plus £3k on other bits (and staring down the barrel of another failed project)
£1k (Nearly! LOL) on the S4

I had earmarked £9k to restore the S6 but that has all fallen apart too, so I am very upset as it is!
