    2005 Audi A4 3.0 tdi Avant S-Line Tiptronic - has a fault

PLEASE CONSIDER THIS FOR SALE NOTICE WITHDRAWN - SEE LATEST POST FOR DETAILS.
    THANK YOU

    2005 Audi A4 3.0 tdi Avant S-Line Tiptronic auto EF54AVY, has a fault though!

£4750 no offers please. PM me or mob: 07754 685 405
Car available to view in Wrexham.

This car is in superb condition & I have really cared for it, BUT there is a fault – it doesn’t stop the car being useable (still in regular use) but fault doesn’t show up on a VCDS scan (more details at the bottom).
Owned since February 2011. Current mileage is just over 147000, so just about run in!
Had a gearbox service at 129,300 mls & just had another by me using ZF Lifeguard 6 oil & a new filter (as per Audi spec) .
Whilst on the subject of the box – this engine suits the auto, you wouldn’t want it as a manual, total waste of time, the 6spd auto is truly great and always knows what gear to be in for maximum economy or performance, depending upon where your right foot is! Autos have moved on massively in the last few years.
I am third owner, 1st and 2nd owners did a lot of motorway miles and we have used the car mostly for long trips, if we need to pop to the shops, we take another car instead.
This model is PRE-DPF (this is confirmed by having the ‘7GN’ code on the spec sheet) so you never need to worry about having to spend £2k replacing your DPF – it is rare to get one of these that came from the factory without a DPF.
Only ever has shell diesel in it – I don’t use anything else other than Shell in any of my cars (I STRONGLY ADVISE FUTURE OWNER TO DO THE SAME, STAY AWAY FROM RUBBISH PETROL!).
MOT until Jan 2014, tax until may 2014, HPI clear. Currently running RS6 style (OEM) alloys with half worn winter Dunlops, so along with the proper Torsen Quattro 4wd system, you’ll be pretty unstoppable in the snow. I have always run with equal tread on all 4 corners to protect the differentials in the Quattro drive train.

    Good bits:
Full service history –by me since 2011, I have changed the oil & filters every year using longlife fluids but not longlife servicing schedules! Tend to use Millers synthetic 5w30.
Fitted B6 scuttle panel covers when I got it to keep leaves out (I didn’t want blocked drain holes) I also cleaned out any leaf debris in the bottom of the scuttle as it’s a common problem for the scuttle drain to get blocked and the water to pour into the cabin over expensive electronics in the process!
Bose Symphony II head unit with 6cd unit in dash, Bose speakers, sub etc – The Symphony is the most expensive audio system option available on this car & it sounds great.
Leather in very good condition, always been looked after, I treat the leather twice a year with beeswax to keep it supple.
Very supportive & very comfortable seats with electric bolster control.
    Lovely, tactile sports steering wheel.
    Cruise control.
    Parking sensors.
Dual zone climate control (serviced last year)
6 spd auto (ZF 6HP-19) – this engine suits auto so much better than a manual as the torque is relentless (and I don’t generally like auto’s).
Turbo has no play in thrust bearing & turbine blades are not damaged.
Its really quite ballistic and still gets 40mpg on a long journey if kept at 80mph.
S-Line so has lowered & uprated suspension (although not uncomfortable like some people say as long as you run 36psi tyre pressures).
Engine uses no oil – i.e. I’ve never needed to top it up between services & it stays relatively clean too – this engine is in a really good state of health.
No smoke ever, even when booting it.
Whole car is in very good condition, no rust, knocks, bangs, rattles etc.
Looks very good underneath – no damage / corrosion etc.
I very recently treated all exposed suspension components to an application of ACF50 to inhibit corrosion & prevent nuts & brake unions from rusting up

    Bad bits:
One major problem is a stutter the car has, tends to be at around 1400 rpm, doesn’t do it when cold, only after 8 or 9 miles or so, doesn’t happen all the time either. When it does there’s no smoke, no noticeable change in revs either. I googled it and the results suggested changing the auto box fluid which I did (along with the filter) using Lifeguard 6 ZF oil & oem filter – this has not fixed the problem. We were going to sell the car after winter anyway so I have decided to cut my losses & sell her with this fault. (VCDS print out below showing NO FAULTS.)

If I’m being picky, there are a few other tiny faults…..
2x2”scratches in rear bumper on top side.
Small fleck of paint missing from one door moulding.
A vertical scratch on rear screen (hardly noticeable).
Aluminium window trim oxidised in places.
Front fog light mouldings cracked, but not badly enough to need replacing.
A couple of small marks on the leather interior.

Since I’ve had it, I’ve done the following (more comprehensive spreadsheet of this at the bottom):
Replace battery with top quality Varta 110 amp and clean leaf debris from scuttle area
Remove upper tailgate trim to remove all the leaf debris
    Fit Bosch wiper blade rear
Fit new rear wiper motor, grease rotary coupling for longer life, clean out washer jets.
    Re-seal rear light clusters
Fit Scuttle panel covers from B6 A4
    Clean out intercoolers
    Numerous air filter changes
    Numerous pollen filter change changes
    New front fog lights
Remove road wheels, grease hub faces and wheel bolts, inspect suspension etc - all ok
    fuel filter change
    Multiple oil & filter changes
    Bosch wiper blades front
Undertray Dzus fasteners all greased up
Auto box service and filter change (twice)
    New bonnet gas strut
    New drain plug + washer
    Full alignment check
    Air con service + regas

See my photobucket album for pics….
(PLEASE NOTE, THE WHEELS ARE NO LONGER THE 18” RS4 TYPE SHOWN, THEY ARE NOW 17” RS6 TYPE)

Here’s some more, better quality, pictures from after today’s wash, it really is in amazing condition. Dual zone climate working (charged last year) & had cruise control. Over 200 bhp & 450Nm torque.
The wheels are un-marked with Dunlop winter tyres half worn.
If this car didn’t have the fault, I would be selling for £7000.
But it does – I have enough other cars to fix & fettle so she has to go 

Now listed on Ebay - no longer for sale by any other means. Having dug deeper, it seems worst case is new torque converter which will cost around £1200 fitted so please consider this asking price of £4750 now withdrawn.
          Many thanks
