Sorry! but I can't see you getting a 'good' one for that kind of money. 'Typically' a car at that price is going to need the same again spent on it in the near to mid term to keep it honest.
Keep in mind too, that if you get a car that needs lots throwing at it, certain parts could quickly become an issue, even if you're handy with the spanners yourself!
The golden rule these days when buying a ur, is get one that's had all the expensive stuff done (bodywork, all the bushes and suspension - anything underneath basically). Generally though, that means it will cost more, but not as much as trying to do all this yourself to one that's in need of work, it will quickly mug your bank account.
Sorry for being a bit negative and no intention to offend you in any way, just a friendly word of warning. I've owned my current one for over 14 years and been through it myself - I should have bought wiser myself back then. I have a reasonably good one now, but it's cost me, a lot!
Get a good one though and the rewards are fantastic!

cool thanks i do know the cars and have seen a few good ones at that money but now i have the money there is none
im happy to do some work on it im not expecting concourse at that money
as long as it is soild and not a t bag

You're right, a while back that budget would have got you one that was reasonable, but like many other cars from the 80's, they've gone up in price in the last while. Some in the qoc suggest that £5k gets you a parts car!
Just had a look on the net, there's vitually nothing out there, only about 9 cars in total and nothing worth buying below mega money.
