Driver’s seat appears to have done more than the 53k miles stated.

Hope this is another one that's saved.

Beware on this because if it's been recorded as a car B there is an issue here. A cat A must be destroyed and never it or any parts from it put back on the road. A cat B can be broken for parts but never repaired and put back on the road. It's only cat C and D that can be put back on the road.

          Write-off categories
Category A: scrap only. For cars so badly damaged, there are few or no salvageable parts. Should never re-appear on road.

Category B: body shell should be crushed. Signifies extensive damage, although some parts are salvageable. Should never re-appear on road.

Category C: the vehicle is repairable but the costs exceed the vehicle’s value. Can re-appear on road.

Category D: the vehicle is repairable but repair costs are significant compared to the vehicle value. Can re-appear on road.

The ABI Salvage Code dictates that Category A and Category B cars are broken for spares and the body shell crushed. However, write-offs in the latter two categories can be sold on by the insurance company, either to the original owner or to a third party via a car salvage company. They can then be repaired and, provided they pass a Vehicle Identity Check with the DVLA, can be put back on the road.

This may put people in the know off from bidding but "Joe Public" may think it a bargain.
Imagine someone doing all that work and then turning up for a test to find out the car needs crushing!

These are a voluntary code of practice for insurers and salvage agents, and not the law.

i.e. best practice for salvage dealers.

but, what slips through the net- can be returned on road.

I didn't know that, interesting info, I was under the impression it was law but have never taken the trouble to check.

Looking at the pic's and reading the description (as long as it's honest) I think it could be safely repaired and worth the trouble as long as the tunnel and bulk head are still straight. Be nice to have a complete drivers side flitch to work with, I suspect most of it would be required.

Mines been written off 3 times in it's life twice whilst I've owned it all cat C or D. Insurers write these cars off at the drop of a hat

C or d is no issue. But if they have marked it as a b then good luck insuring a car that they say should not be back on the road as it will always be marked as a cat b write off

As it reads SHOULD I am sure it can but it may present problems and it's something to check before purchase

Is there not someone on here selling a complete Avant S2 Bare shell???
Whoever wins this car could just build all the parts into a good shell
