This is my dad's car and he has just put it through MOT a couple of weeks ago, so near a full years test. He was diving it on the motorway at the weekend and from what he describes the rear diff has blown. There's a loud knocking and play in the driveshaft flange on the drivers rear side.
He doesn't have the know how or tools to fix it and I dont have the time (or the inclination). He bought another car yesterday so just wants the A4 out of the road, so the first person to walk up the drive with £200 can own it. The car is in Belfast, N. Ireland.
It will drive but makes a serious knocking (I haven't seen or heard it from this happened). The car has around 180k on it, I did the timing belt and water pump etc last year for him so about maybe 8k from that. The bodywork is what can only be described as tired, there;s some rust spots and scratches up both sides. The engine is going 100% and starts on the button. it's the 110bhp version.
