My wife's A4 failed it's MOT just before Christmas so we put it on the drive, sorned it and left the decision of what to do with it until the new year. Thinking of seeing if I can sell as is, since we'd probably be selling it anyway and I'm not sure I have the time or inclination to do the work myself.
Firstly this is what it needs to get through the MOT, it's not a lot but the garage price vs the value of the car prompted us to think twice:
Front discs and pads
A rear brake calliper
A track rod end.
It's a '99 facelift in Hibiscus Red with sport cloth seats and electric front windows, manual rear. Totally standard spec, 150hp, 140k (ish) miles.
It actually drives really nicely, pulls strongly and smooth.
The bodywork is in surprisingly good nick. Paint is very clean with barely any scratches, not even evidence of poor washing practice or stone chips. There is a slight crease in the bonnet which you can see with the light at the right angle and the tailgate lock plinth is very scabby.
A couple of the wheels are good, a couple not so good.
One door trim is missing which you can see in the photos.
The stereo has the volume control fault
The DIS is quite bad.
The engine has a slight misfirelike idle, have checked plugs/coil packs, maybe a breather or TB? Doesn't effect the driving.
Fairly recent new Bosch S4 battery and just had oil and filter change (before they failed the MOT duh).
We have the original wallet, documents, folder of receipts but only one key (the other key probably being somewhere in our house but deposited somewhere by a small person!).
Has been super reliable, we only bought it as a cheap stop gap but have had it over 4 years.
