Cant wait to give it full beans

Was always on a lookout for a green avant in manual, or S2 or S8 but ragusa green was my favourite. When my black s6 poped up on ebay and fairly localy I had 2 have at least a look. Anywhere more than 50miles away I probably wouldnt have bothered

The pictures in the ad were nice but on closer look it wasn't so great, paintwork pretty shabby but im hoping deep machine polish might do the trick. One panel was previously resprayed and will need to be done again as top of the panel faded and it turned matt. Underneath car looks solid no major drama, clutch, discs+pads, engine bay pretty clean apart from minor sweating from rocker cover. Inside very very very clean. This blue alcantara seats sold it. Few minor nibbles on the test drive hussled the price down to 4k as a 'guy from scotland' offered him that over the phone without checking the car
When I finaly picked the car up on the way home 1 front indicator screen flew off and I noticed turbo gets laggy and coughy over 4500rpm :/
Now gmac78 tells me he was the man from scotland and tells me i missed something else quite important I hope I didnt get ripped off on it. I have it booked into a garage for friday. pray with me please...

Anyhow Im upgrading from a mk2 Jetta GTI 16V aka the Silver Bullet my trusty old banger which I had since 2008. Im sad to see it go and only last year I changed discs, clutch, gearbox, etc 1.5k spent...
Spoke to D at YAASH who looked after the bullet some time ago and we might do a trade he'll sort out the S6 in p/x for the Jetta.
VdT I will be taking the S6 to the garage in park royal near ace cafe on a406 on friday if u want to check it out. PM for details.

          Cheers all
          Thanks for the warm welcome
I will surely post some more pictures of my BLACK PIRATE (or PARROT - haven't decided yet) P42RYT once I have it polished up

Sorry couldn't figure out how to insert big pictures into the post. Thumbnails of the bullet + sneak peek of the S6

I would't fret. Just verify when the timing belt was done, and that it was done properly. If you can't, get it done soon to draw a line in the sand.

Anything else can be dealt with as required / when funds allow depending on the item, but either soon or eventually you'll have a stunner. It's already good now.

Power wash the four wheel arches with the wheels off, clean the alloys them sleeves on the inside, polish them on both side to make them easier to clean. Power wash the fuel lines and around the petrol tank to get rid of the accumulated muck and salt.

Keep the wheels and fit Michelin Pilot Sport tyres (255/40/17) when funds allow /new tyres are needed. Make sure you have a matching spare wheel. Invest in a spare set of five centre caps from the Dealer before they go NLA. The rims really suit the car even though you may not fully appreciate that right now as it is too soon.

Same with the radio and the brakes and suspension, etc. Don't be tempted to up grade them or butcher the car making such changes that you feel are good now that turn out to be bad and or irreversible.

The car will need plenty of TLC to get it absolutely mint, but you already have a helleva car to be starting with. Watch VDT's thread on his car and other UrS6 threads on here for advice / information as well as inspiration and motivation.

This car will take time and effort and money but will reward you in spades, but you have to be committed to them.

While Mk 2 Jetta might have been fun, this car is a massive step up for a myriad of reasons, not least a turbo'ed I5 and quattro.

When you get used to it and get to know it, you'll appreciate it even more.

Looking forward to further updates / photos.

Always ask here if you're not sure about something, loads of us have BTDT with "your" car and you'll nearly always get the right answer / opinion.

Looks very good indeed... I love the c4 body shape, esp in saloon (altho the wagon is so damn useful) . I have a soft spot for the jetta too. A great lil car. I had use of the later Vento in VR6 form and that was very impressive. If you can do part ex for some mechanical work on S6, well that makes sense if the totals are similar... Once machine polished the S6 will look stunning I am sure.

              Well done mate

I know you liked your Jetta but the difference between the two is night and day, the S6 is a proper car. In fact, the more I look at S6's the more I am tempted. Cracking value at the moment. You'll never lose on the purchase price, its like money in the bank (if you don't mention parts and running costs you can even justify it to the wife!)

I had a VR6 Vento myself beautiful dragon green but it had a lumpy Auto gearbox so i changed it for the jetta.

I am only getting used to the Audi, comfortwise no comparison, the S6 feels like driving a german Panzer, the Jetta was much lighter and smaller fitted anywhere i didnt even lift for them width restrictions, like a gokart on London roads and weighing only 1000kg it was a joy off the lights 0-25mph it smoked pretty much anything being all banged up meant I could thrash it about without feeling guilty and the parts were sooo cheap too + only paid £235 for classic car insurance
The audi is more of a cruiser, wide tyres and the weight give me a tottaly different feel of the road. No more thrashing it out off the lights and no more going for tight gaps and Im terrified of damaging it after I had a browse through ebay checkin prices of parts

I guess its time to grow up and a radical review of my driving habits

Give it a few weeks, those habits may start rearing their heads again in a slightly different guise

How much of that 5 cyl growl can you hear in the cabin with the standard exhaust?

Not much, it only starts hitting that sweet Audi 5zyl note above 4000rpm and i only revved it over 5000rpm few times... Im not that confident yet and only tommorow will I get a full health check by my VAG guru
The exhaust looks pretty tired so a de-cat stainless replacement is def on the cards in the very near future.

Yes I understand and agree about not booting it until you have been advised by someone you trust that it has a clean bill of health and nothing's about to snap or come loose ..
