    Octavia 1.9 TDI (130)

    Hi Everybody,

Looks like I need to choose a daily car for my work. I'm strongly considering Octavia TDI 130bhp. At least its not very expensive and still belongs to VW/Audi group.
BTW-car I need to purchase needs to be 1-3 years old.
Will keep my old batmobile(audi80q S2 3b engine) anyway, just its too old and too 'sporty' to comply with the company rules.

    Any opinions/advise on Octavia please

    Cheers

    Andy

Had an Octavia TDi through work couple of years ago, only for a short time but really liked it. Not pleasant to look at but did the job very well, this one was an auto for some reason but still went well.

The Octavia TDi is a cracking car (in it's class). I would personally plum for the A6 2.5 TDi

If you can find one,try a Fabia vRS.Amazing car with the same 1.9tdi engine and a 6 speed gearbox.

I have the golf with the pd 130 tdi lump in it and am made up with it. It goes well, good brakes and still returns 50 mpg! The wife does more miles than eddy stobarts fleet but has held up well. Cambelt change was a ******* though!
              Ragusa Coupe gone!

                Thanks for replies.

Fabia is intersting choice, but its abit too small and anyway I do not think company will accept vRS, they strict about any "sports" cars.

The problem is that I need to chose a car to certain benchmark (F. Focus LX 1.8 TDI-no way for me) in price range and fuel type. Thats way I looking for Skoda Octavia-value for money, good build quality and etc.

If only I could-I have chosen the A4 estate. But its bit too pricy at the moment.

I think with a little help of our ECU wizards, I can improve Octavia's performance a bit

                Cheers

I drove one of the 140 TDi's the other week and it was an excellent car!
Had to deliver it to the Stafford Police!!

Drove an Octavia estate as well last week, one of the 130 1.9 models. Not as responsive but still a lot of car for the money.

Had to deliver a 2.0 A4 Avant 2 weeks ago. 7 Spd Tiptronic auto box. Considering it was only a 2.0 diesel it had a hell of a lot of power!

i've gt a A6 1.9 TDi SE (130bhp) which is a lump of a thing with surprising torque - more than my previous car (now the wife's) a Fiat Marea 2.0l 20V HLX (175bhp) - the fiat just has not got the torque though.

That Octavia is a good car - essentially an ugly sister of the A6 and Passat. Skoda will always suffer from a status problem, but I have no truck with trying to keep up with the neighbours. The latest Skodas are fine cars and are fantastic value for money when buying 2nd hand. Sure it'll never win any beaty contests, but it's also very unlikely to get stolen...

I gather they are built pretty well from some of the other forums. Just get a decent colour - they do some rancid shades of 'sick yellow' and 'metallic **** brown'.

With a chip it should go well. Does it have 6 speed box? If it has the 5, I believe there is an issue of how far it can be chipped, due to the diff not being able to withstand over 250lb ft? 6 speed can go to 300lb ft before you consider other problems of clutch slip I believe.

Some cars are chipped past 300 though, and if the company is paying for the clutch...

Mine smokes well in the warm weather but is pretty nippy (150 tdi Leon +remap) and returns 50+ to the gallon if I drive 'normally' in the 70s and 80s on the Mway. 500+ to a tank anyway. Octavia should give a better range too - bigger tank I think.

I think you'll be happy with it. The plastics inside seem a bit plain but the cars I've been in never had any squeaks or rattles. With skoda the jokes are on those who think the cars are still crap, and pay more for 'quality' brands...
                            'The Bacofoil Express'...

                            No more.

Leon TDI 150 run in now.

                            Very slow.

                            Needs a chip.
