I am looking at buying a 2.4TDI SWB Transporter van and was wondering whether fitting a K24 turbo would be a bad idea? Any diesel gurus in the house
K24 Turbo on 2.5 diesel

Doubt whether you would gain anything. Diesels are rev limited to @5.5K. Already have small turbos for increased torque production.
Now if you went for a 2.5Tdi that might be interesting. Think they are detuned AAT/AET. Can get substantial increases in torque from those five pots with electronic methods. They use a K14 which is the later version of the K24 with intregal wastegate.Comment

Aren't they V6's?
The principles the same. If its electronically controlled then undoubtedly there will be a tuning box for it. These fit in line between the pump and ecu. Basically it intercepts and modifies the signals.
Like anything else, you pay you money and take your chance. If its from a reputable outfit it should be ok. Not too sure about the durability of this engine. The old five pots are (apart from tensioner problems which cause all kinds of mechanical mayhem) tough as old boots!
You will need to do some homework on that one.Comment

the pump can NOT give the fuel for some bigger turbo, and the injektors are to small too. you have to bigger plungerunit innside the fuel/dieselpump....Comment

Caterpiller, Are you saying that this "plunger" unit inside the pump would increase fuel pressure to accomodate a bigger turbo?sigpicComment

You mean the Belt tensioner? What problems did they had there?Go Holset or Go RS4Comment

If its the old 2.4 6 pot inline diesel, dont turbo it! They have a hard enough time staying together NA. Also the turbo engine have different. head, pistons, pump etc, etc...Comment

Interesting to see how improvements in the injection systems have increased power. So the 5 pot diesel had gone from 100bhp in 2.4TD to 115/140bhp in 2.5TDi to 174PS in 2.5PD. More impressive is the increases in torque up to 400nm!
So the answer to your original question is YES! Another 80nm/30PS available from MRC!Comment

upps: the 2,4 il6(!) does become WITH turbo too. no prob with that. the il6(still) have some too big piston/syl clarense, and have ca 1/2 lite too little oil in.and the short ride for the engine arent NO good for these...
the 2,4 il5(!!) have some commen part in,and arent no race engine no. and cant have the turbo in,the fuelpump cant feed more diesel, when you have booost.
the 2,5 il5 TDI have the turbo, but its the limit what the pump can give of fuel..the plunger innside have to be changed to some bigger unit(from 10mm to 12mm)
the 2,5 TDI il5 from (2000??) have the unitinjectors...and may give som really big hp and Nm(200hp and 400+Nm)
the 2,5 tdi v6 are a different engine and are a drinkin beast of fuel, use alot more than the il5......Comment

no prob, think you can get 200+++ hp and HUGE Nm : but the engine arent mont longitude,so the TRANNY vill colaps anyway...the trannys in theese vans are som ******Comment
