Are these the work of the devil or will it be easy enough for me to just change the actual pulley? It's a strange looking set-up, I've had a spanner on the back of the pulley but there's not much movement when I try to release the tension.........anyone know if this is the norm for these?
It's a '96 1.9tdi(1Z engine), no air-con.

...........I replaced the (plastic) pulley, fitted a metal one (came from a VAG 2.0 tdi, idler pulley for timing belt!)
