I'm starting to think about moving to the dark and oily side as well probably in the next year or so - I'm interested in all the negative comments on the 2.5TDi as this would be my only car so wanted to keep the performance up - is a 1.9TDi really quick enough? Does a re-map on a diesel have much negative impact on economy or smoke?

Thanks Spink. Any idea on cost for the bits etc to extract this extra power from the engine? Hopefully it's not too much as it would turn into a bit of a false economy for me. Like everyone else that are going down the DERV route it's all about saving money for petrol and bits for my proper car

I did just over 500 miles on 3/4 tank on a run up to Birmingham two weekends ago.
I would usually have taken the S2 and it would have cost about £110 instead of about £40.

I've had out 1.9TDi A4 Avant for about 3 weeks now and am very impressed with it.
With 4 up + luggage I had no issues, really impressed with the torque of the engine.

Gonna give it another test this weekend with a trip to the valleeeeeys.

I looked into this last month, there is a big tuning community for the Audi diesels and it's all available on the web.

Some of them are having 200 bhp out of them, I certainly am going to look to own one in the future.

I'll search through the TDi forums for what I need but for quick reference on this thread can you give details of what would be required to achieve 150 ish brake from a standard 115 unit? Will the standard internals and turbo hold up without too much hassle or would it be put under too much strain and cause reliability issues? I bought this by the way http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/363408.htm

The standard internals will laugh at 150hp.
Spink has been digging for the 5 pot recipe.
I have been concentrating on the 4 pot.
I'll see what I can find out.
Have you looked in the family album for different turbo / injector (nozzle) part no.s?
BTW if it has a cat you can lose that straight away.

Family album on the TDi Forum?
I don't get the car until next week (he's MOT'ing it first) and will check the cat situ then. Is it an MOT requirement?

FA for differences between the 115 and the 140.
You don't need a cat on diesel, at least upto 1998 anyway - the A3 went straight through without one last week.

It appears the only differences between the AAT(115 Bhp) and AEL(140 Bhp) are nozzles and ECU, the pumps and rest of the engine are all the same? However, the automatic models have injector pumps fitted with an 11mm plunger as opposed to the manual ones, wich came with a 10mm plunger (whatever that means?). So the shopping list would be AEL nozzles, ECU map/chip and an auto injector pump for a bit more fuel?

Your pump will be good for 150hp
We now need to find out what size the nozzles are.
If they are .205 nozzles (fitted to 110hp 4 cylinders), they should still manage 150hp.
Depends on the map you get, but you can easily get .216 nozzles which are the next size up.
I don't know if your turbo is vacuum operated, this is where Spink will be able to help you more.

                          Loving the Allroad look.

Looks tidy, don't let any muppet near the engine, as if they are serviced correctly they do space ship mileage.

Looks like a good one especially at the mileage, have seen ones with bust headgaskets go for £1100 on ebay.I would checkout http://forums.tdiclub.com/ theres plenty of info on there even though its a US site which didnt get this engine.Instead of putting the ael nozzles on you could stick some .230's on which are better.some info here http://forums.tdiclub.com/showthread...ht=ael+nozzles ,it says the aat goes much better than a ael with them on.Ive hardly opened the bonnet on my car as it doesnt give any problems and dont want to ****** it up so until it does start playing up i think i will leave the engine as is.But will try these chips soon. Some people on that forum have been putting the turbos from the later vag engines on and are seeing 200bhp,but that is putting the engine at its limit due to the high c/r.

ps,check out the bushes where the anti roll bar goes through the bottom arm, looked at mine a couple of days ago and one side had completely collapsed and the washer between the nut and the arm had come off and had shredded the cv gaiter.had been getting a lot of knocking sounds but from the other side so will replace them both tomorrow(£30 each)

Don't worry, i won't be going anywhere near the engine! (LoL!) It will be AllAudi in Bristol (CHEN) that will look after her. I think the AllRoad Look is in this week isn't it?

@ Spink 1/2 the story (what would you else would you expect, wheres my chips???)

205 as stated are the std on an aat the issue appears to be that there are 2 generations of 216 nozzles the number is just that it has no bearing on the nozzle size ( there are some sizes which do relate due to the fact when they where introduced that number was available).

The later generation 216 are ~0.203 and have the open geometry behind the pintle allowing for a better flow. So first generation 216 type are the better std type.

Other wise net search for the hundreads of nozzles available.

As for pumps, my understanding is that the 11m allows full pop at a smaller Deg hence this allows a large window for start of injection hence better control for torque hence they are found on auto's.
You will get a big benefit if using nozzles with the larger pintle opening ( main not pilot) as they can then flow more. If you use a std design nozzle the benefit will be minimal as it just gives the benefit as mentioned above for an auto. As the lift sensing and actual flow will still be the same affectively just over a shorter duration.

Moderators please remove this if its to long, band width etc.

If any more q's please ask.
