I'm just very aware of how slow the TDi is, my Dad had one for many years.
They're really not that bad at all, honestly. I have good memories of my 80 Avant on the Scumball last year, and wanging it around Donington! The 80 Saloon I had wasn't too bad either and good fun if driven properly. The guy that owned it before me is a very good driver and I struggled to keep up with him in my modified 1.8TQ A4 around the twisties!

28mpg! That takes the right foot of a saint! My 'ring trips have involved a mad rush there and a madder rush for a ferry on the way back. 24mpg at 100mph isn't too bad but the daily grind and traffic kills that one. Dag-dag might be the way forward...

In all serious - we should consider a special section on this board for 80TDi and other important cousins... Unless there is another on-line community as resourceful, friendly and occasionally bonkers as this place to cover the TDi (and others).
tdiclub.com is a great resource but has an american bias so not a lot on the 80TDi and it can be difficult to find exactly what you need to know.
A dedicated section is a good idea as there are quite a few people with them now and it would keep other areas of the forum clear (bit like the PC/gaming section)

@ Paul, yes we did joke about it, but create the DagDag forum and I will happily help "move" whatever threads need to go in there!
@ Andy, I have seen 40mpg from an '80 2.0 8v, but that is mostly Motorway and "grannying" it ALL the time, a bit tedious.
My 90bhp Tdi returns 50 - 55 mpg on a motorway run at 65 - 70 mph, and 45ish mpg when driven properly.
That said, the beauty (for me anyway) of the TDi is that you don't have to drive it fast because it won't really do it, it is much more fun to cruise around at 2500 rpm, smug in the knowledge you are getting twice as much mpg as other people!
I rarely drive mine fast, it isnt' much quicker flooring it anyway, and I have an S2 for going fast.
IF it was my ONLY car though, I think it would drive me mad with its slow steady nature.
Cheers,
Steve
