I was the same Andy, but you get used to it really quickly. They are actually great cars to drive, really solid and smooth. As long as you have the S2 to provide an adrenalin shot, you will soon get used to the pace of life in the slow lane. Its really relaxing and no more road rage!

I never get more than 20 mpg out of my 3B when just doing short local journeys typically I get about 18 mpg. On a run I can push 25mpg.

I also run a 10 valve 1992 Coupe (NG engine) this returns about 25 mpg on short journeys but on a run it's just about capable of 40 mpg if you drive like your dead.

My 2.5 non turbo diesel LWB transporter never returns less than 35 mpg and is capable of over 40 mpg on a motorway run. Pretty good for the best part of two tons and shaped like a brick.

My A3 tdi with the evo engine of the 1z does 450 miles on £50 of diesel when driven hard. I put too much Pura in it the other day and it didn't want to start.
The Mrs' A3 tdi does about 600 miles on the same amount.

          Andy,

Dag dags aren't that much slower than the S2 on the daily commute.
Just how fast can you drive when there is other traffic about?

I'm up for a snotter section too.

              Thanks for that Greg.

I have now populated the Dag Dag section from the first 500 results when you search for "Diesel" using the search function!

              Cheers,

Back on the 80 tdi fuel economy topic! My personal best from mine was 720miles to about 64 litres! and i reckon there was about another 30-40 miles left in the tank, i just didnt have the balls to risk it! That was all mostly motorway driving!

Idly considering some topless summer fun... what mpg should be expected from the 1.8 in the final edition cabriolets?
