A bloke down the street from me asked me why his 80 tdi was really slow,1st thing I thought of was fuel filter.He hadn't had it changed in the 14 years he has had it,I took it off and it was black as night,ran like new afterwards,he thinks he has done about 100.000 miles with it like that aswell(ie about 30bhp lol)

its worked out for me quite well so far with the cars (with the obvious exception of my pd engined passat which was a exceptional waste of money)

Wow what a difference! I can't say as it feels much quicker, but it's sooo much smoother and it pulls much better from low revs. Before it was pretty flat pre 1500rpm when the turbo starts boosting, now it will happly pull 5th from 1000rpm. The trip computer is saying average is 52mpg which from previous experience is a real 42mpg.

Filter change is a good way to keep performance there. Cheap and easy to do aswell.

I was really hoping that the new filter would have improved the mpg, but it's got worse, even driving like Miss Daisy, it's down to 36mpg now
