  • Cat removal?

Trying to free up a few ponies on my 1z tdi, been told the cat will likely be partially blocked due to age and should be done away with. I presumed my '95 80 tdi would have needed one of these fitted by law to pass MOT. Am i wrongly informed?

no doesnt need one for a test (at present anyway),you may find when you remove it that there is nothing left of the actual catalyst material,I see that quite often nowadays

If you think you cat is knackered anyway i would recommend hitting the insides out and refit it, that way it looks like the cat is still fitted.

I thought that if a car was fitted with a cat when new it needed to have it fitted for an MOT (the new rules which havent come in yet) at present i think you would be ok as long as it passes the emissions.

It always pays to have a friendly MOT person
