Did mine this way after I rebuilt the injection pump. It's your only recourse if you can't get it done with the vagcom.
My brother in law walked in and saw me hitting my pump with a rubber mallet and said "now that is how you work on a car!!!"Comment

Yes done loads.
My A6 was hunting/missing on tick over when I bought it. IQ was 0.9 slackend the bolts and tapped it to make it do 4.0. Vagcom says i think 0 to 10. Got rid of the miss on tickover.
