  • Audi AEL no power

Hi. I have some problems with my AEL. It doesnt pull as it used to. From what i can see on vag com it doesnt boost as it should. Anyone had similar problems before? It gets 15seconds from 0-100km/h I changed alot of stuff and it does the same thing. I changed injection pump, injectors, turbo, MAF. It starts well, timing is ok. Made a boost leak, everything is ok. I dont know what to change anymore. Here is a short log from 3rd gear. Any advice is welcome. Thanks alot

Does it have chips in? I though Std boost was 0.8bar, looks like you're getting more than that. Have you done a compression test?

It has new rings, rebuilt head. It had 28-30bar before rebuild. I've spent alot of money on it and still doesnt work as it should. It is chiped but goes like an SDI

Do you have a cat on the car, could it or another box have started to collapse on the exhaust causing build up of gasses? Hard to tell from exhaust noise alone.

Cat was removed. Originally was an URS6 so it has AAN exhaust. I removed the exhaust right near the turbo, same story. I cant hear the turbo wistle.

            Wastegate issue?

I changed the turbo and is running exactly the same. Before that i removed the old turbo to see if the wastegate valve is blocked or something. Valve was ok although the spring was pretty soft. I dont know how much pressure it should hold though.

Could it be a problem with the boost control solenoid? I couldnt find a new one to see if it makes any difference

Do you know what it's supposed to boost to?

My reading of your logs show requested and actual boost are broadly similar so boost isn't the issue. Is it Smokey?

And what about injection quantity ? When engine have 90 degrees temperature.

After replying earlier in this thread, I had a niggling feeling I'd seen this issue in the past, here's a post I replied to almost 6 years ago on Audifans.net!

                          http://www.audifans.net/ftopicp-228990.html

Your figures match up precisely to what was discussed in the Audifans post, as AndyP thought it should boost to around 0.8-9 bar, the ECU readings include normal atmospheric pressure which dependant on weather is normaly 1.0bar or 1000mbar.

I'm assuming the two columns in your spreadsheet quoting boost pressures are, requested on the left, actual on the right. At low revs the boost pressure is slow to respond (lag) but then it fires up in to life as the RPM's climb, and from 2000rpm upwards the boost kicks in. So, having reviewed this, whatever your problem is, it doesn't seem to be boost pressure.

Where to go from here? Assuming we've ruled out boost pressure lets look at what could be causing this...

                          Fuel delivery,
                          Combustion,
                          Exhaust blockage,
                          Transmission or brake drag.

The first two can be verified by the Lambda reading, I'm not sure what you should get on that, maybe someone else could shed some light, but either way, if your engine doesn't burn right those numbers should be out. Have you checked injectors? Maybe worth checking compression again, I know you've not long had it checked but worth doing again IMHO.
Exhaust blockage self explanatory, remove the sections and inspect, if there is a blockage I doubt it will be a complete blockage as it does get full boost.
Last thing I can think of just now is that the engine is making all the power it should but it either isn't being delivered properly. lift each wheel and check how they turn individually checking for any binding of brakes or anything else. Do you have an auto or manual gearbox? when was the last time fluds were checked? On that note, when was the last engine oil change?

Lots to consider there, hopefully thats you a little closer to a solution.

I f***ing tested it. Removed it form turbo housing and see if its blocked, then tested the valve with fluid and see if it seals right. All seems to be right.

It doesn't smoke. When it worked fine at 2000+rpm it felt more alive. You could feel to turbo kicking in.
