uhm... so if everyone elses is getting packaged up... can he make one for mine also free of charge and i just pay for delivery of it to mike?

You can understand where i'm coming from right? If other peoples shields are being packaged nicely for shipment, but i have to pay extra for mine to be packaged properly now

To be fair, he did not know it was going state said. I would advise a wooden box not the cardboard one its being shipped in the UK.

I'll ask about the cardboard box but i am not sure what the out come will be i'll get back to you next week

ah ok, that's understandable then. I'm not sore about it, i just don't want to have to pay extra money when it's not needed.

i do want an unbroken windshield arriving to my house though haha.

          Heated Windscreen

Firstly, thanks to James for organising the group buy.

Mine came via courier to work and was delivered safely. Be aware that it arrives with just a plastic sheet and you will need to specify packaging or take your own if picking yours up. I carried mine from work on cushioning with padding around the edges in my Tiguan.
          tn_DSC02095.JPG

Also be aware of the warning about the wiring
          tn_DSC02096.JPG

Finally, the cut out for the VIN plate is not there. It may be possible to remove the relevant part of the black coating to do this. I don't know. Any ideas? AFAIK the black coating around the screen is there to prevent UV damage to the sealant but obviously not where the plate is.

Here is a picture of the corner where the element wires route out.
          tn_DSC02097.JPG

The green tinting at the top is there as is the rear view mirror circle.

          Cheers,

          John

            Fitting

The stock screen has a plastic surround, which does not appear to have any joins as Bentley suggests. First question: is this re-usable? Here is a picture of the booger: -

            tn_DSC02091.JPG

There are 2 heating element wire circuits that emanate from each corner of the new screen as per my previous post. By the looks of it (see picture)

            tn_DSC02094.JPG

part of the above mentioned surround will have to be cut out to route the wires to the relevant relays, fuses and switch and we will have to careful that the screen is sealed here. Second question: does anyone agree?

Last question for now. Having read Bentley, apart from wire, tools, cleaner, sealant (and surround mentioned above) etc. what else is needed? I am presuming that the spacers at the bottom of the screen can be re-used although their self-adhesive may well not work again and that the wind deflectors at the side of the screen

            tn_DSC02093.jpg

            can also be re-used.

            Any help gratefully received.

            Cheers,

            John

Thats a copy and paste, not me inventing things.

So i am awaiting your email my friend.

@ John your on the Money, i fitted mine using all original parts the wirring is very easy. If some one wants to use there car as a tester i am more than happy to come and wire the screen in with you but i am sorry i will not help fit it, to much risk!

But its pretty easy to be fair, getting the old one out is the pita!

Thanks for the reply. It's the plastic / rubber surround that sits around the glass that i'm worried about. It's been there for 17 years in rain and shine and may well be brittle. Is it just one piece and do the wind deflectors on the side just stick on with sealant?

                      Cheers,

                      JB

                        The top trim?

The side wind deflectors/trim are torqued down by cross head screws this needs to be done when the glue is going off or your leak air into the cockpit

                          Windscreen Installation

                          Hi,

This is the surround that i was referring to: -

                          tn_DSC02094 arrowed.jpg

It appears to be made up of a hard plastic 3-sided section that fits around the edge of the glass and has a rubber seal attached around the outside. There does not appear to be any join to allow it to be taken off the screen without damage. The family album on the other hand shows the windscreen trim as 4 distinct pieces (top, bottom, left and right). How did you manage to remove and re-use without damage?

The side covers are shown on the family album thus: -

                          tn_ACOQ Glass Trim - 1 arrowed.jpg

They appear to be held on by 4 rivets per the parts description and you mention torquing down before the sealant sets. Are these exposed by removing the rubber door seal or by removing the interior A-pillar trim?

As ever, any help gratefully received.

To be honest i did not use that bit at all as i am not OEM any more but i would advise buying new if possible?

The 4 rivets indeed were replaced with large self tappers and torqued down to pull the screen trims back in

                            Cheers James
