Following the success of the aluminium gear knobs, I thought I'd see if anyone was after the same style in delrin (very tough plastic). The differences between the two are weight and insulation / heat transfer properties and so they suit different uses.
I have had a Delrin knob to play with after Kev made the prototype out of the material a few years ago and I have reecntly been testing it again.
The light weight mean that it's better suited to applications where the smoothing action of the heavier alloy item isn't required, such as for drag or track day driving, where shifts accross the gate at speed are required with high accuracy. With the Delrin item, you can feel the engagement of the gears and the self centring action of the gear lever isn't as damped. The downside is that the gears can feel a bit graunchy when cold.
Delrin also behaves very differently in cold environments, where the alloy item can be a bit cold when setting off (although the thick anodising layer makes it better than bare alloy). I have been testing this in the recent cold weather and it's rather pleasant to the touch, even when there's ice on the windows.
Engraving can be 5 or 6 speed, S2, S4, S6 or RS2 or the K24R logo.
Prices will be lower than for the alloy ones and a larger batch may yield a cheaper price.
