    Samco Group purchase - 3B

I assume that the GP for the ABY cars is a done deal. Did anything ever happen for the 3B's? If not, I am willing to organize it.

Any interest in a 3B GP out there?

Yes there is a LOT of interest and I have a call scheduled with SFS in the UK to get the 3B hoses fabricated. I already have sample hoses from Marco and others. Will update everyone as soon as I get news on pricing etc.

I expect that the model with SFS may work differently in that *they* will own the tools and productise the hoses for public consumption. The Samco deal on the ABY is different as those hoses will only be built on our request to our spec. There's pros and cons to both approaches. Both vendors are reputable. SFS is actually only 45 mins from where I live so I can keep closer tabs on them if need be.

    Watch this space !

What a friendly and responsive bunch at SFS !

I spoke to Dave Sargeant and he is VERY keen to do this 3B kit. He reckons on getting a sample set tooled up in 2-3 weeks unless they are very complicated.

He guesstimated a committed quantity of ten kits would be the likely minimum. I'll send him the sample hoses and await their view on pricing etc

Interestingly - I was the 5th person today to order a 60/70 reducer hose. I also ordered more 4mm hose for stock and he will get a metre of reinforced 8mm hose made up for me tomorrow.

        Cheers,

Paul : I was wondering why did you ordered ABY kit from SAMCO in the first place , when you have a SFS near you ?

No offence but isn't SFS cheaper ?

What's the 8mm for? I'm using 6.5mm for other stuff and the 1m straight lengths are bendy enough to replace all the thicker stuff.

@Sweeper - Samco was chosen 1st for the ABY cos of their reputation, willingness to get involved, competitive pricing and flexible terms. They haven't been as quick as they promised 'cos of problems with their tool manufacturer.

I'd never actually heard of SFS until very recently - we only encountered them by fluke as they happen to be based next door to a rolling road that we frequent. Think it was actually MarkH who brought them to my attention - as he used their standard hoses, elbows, joint etc for his custom turbo build... plus the now infamous intercooler 60/70 reduer mod.

SFS have also been extremely keen to get more and more involved in the Audi market (much of their off the shelf kits are for GM & Ford applications) and see the 3B kit as a good start. I imagine they will be cheaper than Samco, partly cos they will probably amortise the tooling cost over a larger number of kits. Too early to say for sure.

We've spread our bets basically so that if one supplier does let us down in the future, we will have a relationship with the other to turn to.

@Doug - was thinking of 8mm re-inforced for the little sections from the turbo output to the wastegate via the WGFV. Hope its not too stiff !

I have the 6.5mm ID high pressure stuff for that job - I do have a couple of 90degree bends but don't think I will need them - I'll keep you posted if they melt/burst off the turbo!

SFS offered me a 25% discount just because I bought a lot of stuff - I didn't even ask!

Anyone with a 3B off the road for a few weeks ?

I only have two perfect sample hoses despatched to SFS for a quotation. I need these three other hoses to complete the 3B set -

                        Turbo to Interooler (034 145 746 AB)
Intercooler to Pressure Pipe, Upper (034 145 742 D) - the short little straight section
                        Pressure Pipe to Throttle Body (034 133 649 C)

SFS will need them approx 2-3 weeks at a minimum. I will request that any prototyping work must be NON destructive on the donor hoses.

The kind donor will get first dibs on any sample sets from SFS for a trial fit.

                        Cheers,

I take it these are S2 only hoses? I am pulling a 3B out of a 200 next week and could supply any hoses that may match the S2 set up.

Any more info on this GP?
