  • Hubstands anyone ?

I had a notion to make something like this to facilitate tightening of various suspension bushes with weight of the car on the ground - bit challenging with wheels attached unless you have access to a four post ramp. Would also be great for DIY wheel alignment.

There are some exotic ones used for race car setup costing silly money, but something more simple would be fine for normal purposes. I found a company in USA making something which looks a suitable starting point. They don't have a 5x112 part ready to go, but was wondering if any of the fine fabrication folks on here was interested in making some on basis of a group purchase.

The main challenge is getting them made with some adjustment for height so they can be used across a variety of vehicles. I was thinking of a two piece design that could be modular enough to create different options for height and indeed hub adapters for other sizes such as 4x100, 5x130 or whatever.

wishbone bushes are the main issue i've found as on the deck not enough clearance to use long swan neck spanners etc. I've gotten round that by using the jack on the wishbone or under the balljoin and jack up until the car just lifts off the axle stand, torque up, set down on the stand and then replace wheel and drop the car...

    Those look interesting though...

As above i just put a jack under the suspension and load it with the weight of the car, or drive it onto a pair of ramps like these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/221923597888

Fortunately I had access to a pit when I did mine.

I guess you are looking for something like an adjustable axle stand with a hub fitment. There must be a design somewhere

I have used the ramp method before now - access is ok for some things, but theres lots of joints at the back of a C5/C6 or B5-B8 which are frustrating to tighten up on a ramp as the road wheel invariably gets in the way. I think the hubstand is a neater idea worth exploring.

Could you not take a pair of normal axle stands like these:
            http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/like/37106...ype=pla&crdt=0
and then weld on a hub adaptor plate to the top of them like this:

I bought 4 of these to make it easier to set my ride height with my coil overs.

Problem is I couldn't weld anything if my life depended on it !
I quite like the concept though as the pins would give a variety of height adjustment for different vehicles. If somebody made them for sensible money I would defy be interested.
