    Replacing accelerator pedal

Firstly, thanks to James, who supplied me a nice replacement accelerator pedal with an intact flapping sprung rubber foot pad thing, and gave me telephone support!

    Removal of old pedal:

Grasp accelerator pedal firmly and pull firmly. Pedal should come away from the bulkhead via the plastic safety clips, which should release. Cable should easily detach from the rubber eye on the top of the pedal arm.

    Attachment of new pedal:

Remove the plastic hinge clips from old pedal and attach to new one - they split in half and clip on easily on either side. At this stage, you might want to do two things: remove the trim underneath the steering wheel, and open the bonnet - wedge the throttle in to a fully-wide-open position to give more slack on the cable.

Get on the floor and on your back to look up in to the pedal box area. Try and locate accelerator cable through the bulkhead. It should be up and next to the brake servo, it won't be very long. My cable had a spring on the end. Get the rubber eye on the new pedal on to the cable. Swear a lot as this takes the dexterity of an army of ants to achieve. Push bulkhead clips back in to place. Release throttle wedge and pray it takes up again. Press throttle pedal to check travel. Smile at a job well done. Replace trim under steering wheel. Rejoice in larger accelerator pedal contact area!

Sorry there are no photos. Took me approx 40mins to do, but most of that was trying to locate, and re-attach the throttle cable to the new pedal.

Alternatively, unhook the cable from the throttle body first.

Then remove the old pedal keeping hold of the cable. Simply reattach the cable to the new pedal before clipping it back on.

Finally reattach the cable to the throttle body.

Shouldn't take longer than 10 minutes to do.

There's nothing worse than a smart ****, especially if you have taken a long time to do something!

          Thanks for this thread dan.
i just received my replacement peddle from the bay - will have a go at fitting it on Saturday.

I think i will use the scottish method though (No disrespect to you) but it just sounds a little easier.

          Thanks again.
