Door adjustments on S2 coupe?? Tips Please..

I noticed the other day when i was parked on a really steep hill that my drivers door wouldnt quite shut properly...it was as if the catch wasnt quite engaging....

The bodywork/doors/shutlines etc are totally original and straight so I'm pretty sure I just need to tweak or adjust the door

it is perfectly fine / normal on the flat and you just have to shut it...Hard....on a steep hill but if there is a relatively painless fix I would be keen to know it please??!

Its not a big enough problem to fit new hinges I dont reckon and Ive re hung doors on a few other cars and it was a pain to get them aligned perfectly......so if I can avoid that I will..

Anyone have any tips or advice please or is it a case of all or nothing...eg// re hang or not do anything??

    TIA

Easy to do, hard to explain

Sounds like the old Coupe door sag issue.

Open the door fully. IIRC you'll need a 13mm offset spanner and socket along with some allen keys (can't remember sizes).
Use the offset spanner to loosen off the bolts just behind the wing (tricky to get to) but don't take them all the way out.
Loosen off the two bolts on the inside of the door opening, leaving the top one in slightly but removing the bottom altogether. You'll now notice an allen headed threaded bush. Turn this slowly clockwise to lift the rear of the door up slightly. A bit at a time is the key.
Nip up the bolts to check it's lifted the rear of the door up nicely, then when right tighten them fully. Door should shut with a click rather that a "thud - slam".
    Torque wrench setting is 30nm.

      What can I say?!!
      but THANKS mate
thats just the sort of advice I was hoping for!!! I will give that a bash this weekend...another one for the growing jobs list!!

When you say loosen the two bolts behind the wing do you mean access this via ????

      Also...Totally Off Topic//

but does anyone know how much the door trim strips are?? because mine (and Ive seen it on other Coupes?!) have peeled up a bit on one end.......

Is it as easy as it looks to remove them and refit new ones??! and if so how much are new one if anyone has any idea!!!

I was told they have some securing clip mechanism that holds them on so im just hoping they don't have that sticky stuff on as its a pain to clean off before refit iirc......

They slide off towards the rear of the door and the rear quarter one slides off towards the rear wheel, don't try and pull them off or you'll break the clips. Try the guys at Vagparts for new ones, Not that expensive in the grand scheme of things IIRC

                Hey Jas.....

(or any1 else that has done it!)

Could you elaborate a bit on the how to above?!! I took a look at the door earlier and I saw a lot more bolts than was in the description above??!!
                i took a pic

Any chance you could tie up the instructions with the numbers as I cant find any guide on this?? bentley? I dont have one......

and I dont want to have my door sagging more if I undo too many bolts

I dint get the bolts just behind the wing bit? you mean number 2 and 3? if so what about the other pair located at the bottom of the door?

and where the heck is this allan headed bush?? Is it located "under" one of the bolts or??

                Please help!!!

                THANKS

                  Forget bolts 2, 3, 4 , 6 , 7.

The threaded inserts are behind bolts "1" and "5" on your pictures. Before you undo those, you need to loosen the ones around the corner from them (your pic doesn't show them, refer back to my pic) Loosen them both and then loosen and leave in number "1", remove altogether bolt number "5" and you'll see an allen headed threaded bush behind. Wind this out slowly and it will in effect bring the bottom hinge slighlty away from the body. This lifts up the bottom of the door, thus correcting the sag that has crept in over the years. Small turns of the threaded bush though, you don't want to lift the door up to far so that it doesn't close.
