Climate control temp sensor "T" - is there a metal one?

I don't get why Audi cheaps-out to plastic parts that just disintegrate. This plastic "T" by the firewall runs coolant and has a clip that holds a temperature sensor in place. Has anyone devised a metal option? Can I just screw in a G62 CTS elsewhere and run the climate control wires to it... but where?

You could try and find somewhere else to fit the G62 but if you just remove it and leave the connector unplugged the Climate Control Unit will compensate and you won't notice the difference.
