i would go with rs4 b5 but these cars are also getting older and there will be some issues that will need atention. i went from s2 to something more modern but kinda missed it and a few years got into s2 again. simple cars and you can modify and repair them yourself. b7 engine is not something that i would try to repair something by myself.

I'm really over it with all the keep alive and upgrading era, also lost interest in doing the work myself as I usually create more work
I know the RS4 will no doubt be challenging to keep in good form but after 20+ years of challenging S2 ownership I'm feeling it's time to move on, good news is there'll be quite a few bits on here for sale soon if I do make the jump

It would be sad to see you go. I really enjoy your input on the forum. History shows that members tend not to return to the forum after selling their cars
The S2 engine is one of the most durable and reliable engines Audi ever made. Its up there with the 1.9tdi pd engine and the 5 pot tdi.
Prices of all classic cars are currently quite depressed. Its not the right time to sell. I would hang on in there for a bit longer.
Hopefully you will change your mind.Nothelle S2 Avant

A few people have returned to the forum but the cars are not as cheap and getting more scarce so they can't get back into ownership. Parts availability doesn't help much.
A b5 rs4 is more widely known than a s2 so the market is larger for value plus now demand will go up from foreign buyers.
Just remember if you sell up it will be expensive to get back into s2 ownership.Comment

If I do sell the old girl on I think my S2 days will be behind me bro, who knows I might just wrap her up n store her for a few years see how I feel after a breatherComment

I wouldn't buy a B7 RS4, i work on them day in day out and have done for years! Parts are getting ridiculous and absolete plus they need keeping on top of like any 18 year old sports car. Don't get me wrong, a good one drives great but anything from linings wearing off the bores, smoking and oil usage to wiring issues, carbon build up, failing injectors, leaking oil cooler lines and rattling timing chains are just a few of the issues we see. PM me if you want anymore infoCheers,
Chris

Have you considered a low milage B5 V8 S4 as opposed to an RS4? Okay they’re not as quick but have much less to go wrong and are a joy to drive with buckets of torque, one of the last really well built Audis IMO.1990 B3 2.0 80 quattro.

After reading the above, sounds like you're looking for an e90 M3...
Yes the tax will be high...
I've gone from s2's, manual E46 m3, b5 rs4... The straight six might be the winner in hindsight.
Even though I still own my s2's and sold the rest.
Makes no difference when they're not driven
