'91 Audi Coupe 7A Delco climate control is garbage!!!

I want to gain some manual control over the Delco climate control unit where I can access the hot-cold flap and be able to control airflow either to top of dash or front dash vents. That's it!

I have access to the flap controller below the center console and can manage something there. Is there a practical way to control the flap that controls dash vs defrost vents?

Before you condemn the auto control, are you sure the flaps aren't moving? 1 cause could be vacuum leaks in the system. If they are moving, could be the foam has desintegrated on the blend doors.

Either way you're in for "fun" (hell) as the whole hvac unit needs to come out and audi literally built the car around it

Ha! I believe that! The foam was serviced by me about 15-20 years ago and is good. When I manually move the flap, I get very hot and very cold. I can manage the hot/cold flap or can tinker with the motor that runs it.

Any thoughts on how to practically move the flap that directs the air to windshield or chest?

      Thanks!!

before you condemn the CC head, check to see if the system is working as it should, I believe there are two vacuum servos for changing position of the flaps for defrost, console and footwell. There is an electric servo under the heater box just about the transmission tunnel which controls the heater flap position. I would run the controller diagnostics on the 20v.org page https://20v.org/climate.htm, and then look for vacuum issues. A mityvac will be your friend to manually apply vacuum.
