    heaters ( cooling system )

ok winters here, thought id change my coolant etc .. never had a car so long as well were ive never bothered doing this ( probably because i changed the hoses to samco ones and had my radiator go pop a few years ago ) so anyway ..

thought i would do it as my heaters were slowly getting poor not working to well they worked but never as good as any vw i had owned before apart from maybe a mk1 golf.

so i was reading my club audi mag and mister chairman had said " if you heaters are getting poor try getting a wasing up machine tablet and making sure its the one with the white ball in . so you can take the white ball out"think its the bleach.. crush it up in some hot water try not to breath it in as it has got to be pretty toxic any way throw it in your header tank leave engine running for a we while go around block to get it warm .. then make sure you drain it all out wash it out clean it out wash it out again fill it up again and wash it out again ( till your water that your putting in looks like whats coming out again nice an dew drop mountain fresh)then fill up with coolant and water and well i was shocked at how well and i mean as Audi obviously ment the heaters to work they was i was sweating the heat was just to much i had to turn my heaters of for the first time in three years ,, it really did work

i had heard about this before i just never tryed it but i can give it the up as well my heaters are now brilliant ..
i did try searching the tips to see if this was there and i couldnt see it just thought i might have looked in wrong forum but hey im sure mister moderator can delete it if its a repeat post or being a re post .
and once again thanks mister moderators for makin this place possible.. im sure il get around to getting you all a beer at billing if i make it this year..

How did you drain the water from the system?

Exactly what I was wanting to get at. You plop washing machine soap tablets in the cooling system, flush the system by removing the bottom rad hose and hey presto, Aeriel washing machine soap tablet mixed water left in the block. Lovely .

IMHO, if you do this, then drain the block for gods sake, the only way to do that properly is to remove the thermostat housing and thermostat.

I can imagine how well it cleans it out as i put a tablet in a bowl of cold water a few weeks ago and left part of a cacked up rocker cover in it over night.Next day it was like new, with hot water i dare say it would have done the same in an hour or so.I would flush out your heater pipes also as the matrix is a very delicate.
