you dont have to remove anything from inside the car
the rear strut has 4 screws in the arch area, and the shock screws on the bottom.

      Tough enough job,

I'm in the process of finishing off the replacement of the rear struts with new Koni inserts on my Avant. It's proving well difficult, between rusty nuts and bolts, and the requirement for a good garage's coil spring compressors, and their air gun and welding torch for a brief heating to open the caps on the top of the front struts.

Additionally, you have to make sure the top of the dog leg shaped part of the hub, that connects to the top wishbone, does not damage the wheel arch as you struggle with the rear wheel assembly and forget to notice that it is about to catch / scratch the wheel arch

You will also need to remember to set the bolt hole at the bottom of the shock at the correct angle to line up with its slot in the lower wishbone and bolt / nut in the lower wishbone when deciding to release the compressor from the coil spring, because it is too tight to move it and the rubber seat into the required / correct position after the spring has been released.

Nobody really replied to my recent posting for any comments on changing an Avants rear shocks, so just mentioning the above to pre-warn you.

It would be great for others yet to have to change their rear shocks if some generous person was to post a good "How To?", with photos as it would be useful for others - rear shock virgins, as I speak from tough / awkward experience.

One last point is that my springs are H & R springs which does make the job a bit harder than if they were standard springs, but a lot of people do run non factory springs, with H & R's being quite poplar, anyway good luck with your rear struts.

      Kind regards.

@Dave - maybe you can write this particular 'How To' then ;-)

          Me !!!

I'd be no good at that, can't even post a photo.

I'm leaving it to others more expert than a Newbie such as me:

What a doddle! Hey Its all in the prep! I bit of a wire brush up first, squirt of some WD-40, little tapping on the relevant bolts and.............hey presto!

I reccoment having a 3 ft Powerbar 1/2 drive to make sure you got the brute force to loosen some of the awkward nuts!

Ive just finished and its 1.30am! (neighbours were up so I dont think they were bothered)

I even learned how to adjust the RS2 Porsche handbrake without taking anything off! Oh yeah! :-)

Im dying to drive the thing, but im off to bed, tatty bye!

              Mine was obviously rustier,

although I do now feel inadequate and useless after that reply post, I'm off to top myself.

              Goodbye cruel world.

              Well done you.

How long did the job take from start to finish?

Having done a Coupe 4 times no less I'm was hoping the Avant rear would be easier.

I did the whole of mine in an afternoon (fr and rr) You'll find the back of the avant a damn sight easier than a coupe, and I speak from experience i've done both a few times HTH
