New Guy but same old question

    Hello to all members,
Yes I'm new to the forum but have owned my '92 S2 for 3 years. I have, for the most part, managed to avoid my local Audi dealer's service, opting to use a 20 year experienced VW Audi tech who went out on his own a few years ago. After providing me with 3 years of good service he now says he does not have the time to devote to looking after my S2. I guess he can get more bangs for his bucks working on Golfs and Campers.

If there is a grade of mechanical awareness lower than mine it would probably not have a name, I would not even attempt to change a spark plug or do anything more complex that check the oil or coolant.

So now I need you guys help to recommend a Quattro specialist within a couple of hours drive of Hitchin Hertfordshire UK. From browsing the forum archive I have seen Autopool of Iver Bucks mentioned. And on the internet I have seen Quattrosports mentioned of Haywards Heath. Are their any other options nearer to Hertfordshire.

I guess it is probably frowned on to mention commercial organisations in this forum, but how are enthusiast like me to keep their S2s in the best form unless you guys mention a few names that you've heard good things about.

grateful for any help you can give

    Chris A

    HI Chris,

I don't think anyone minds helping another S2 owner mate!! so my vote goes to Autopool in Iver. They know the difference between an S2 and A2 ;-) rates are good and treatment fair. Mention Martyn and Paul when you go to them and should give you some special tratment, like... a cup of tea if you're real lucky! ;-)

Quattrosport in Haywards Heath, sure does know his stuff for sure, no doubting that but a long way from you. Wonder if maybe Gregs dad would entertain another S2? Greg will hopefully read this post and answer.

Welcome to the forum Chris, its time to roll up your sleeves and get dirty, its fun! the S2 is a very simple car to work on really... sometimes hard to get to some parts, but its not that difficult to work on really...

    :-)

        Hi Chris,

your just down the road from me with you in hitchin cos i live over in biggleswade, if you need a hand doing some work dont mind mucking in so to speak.

As for garages I do all the major work and servicing on mine at my dads which is up in shropshire so its a bit out of range.

other than that i cant recommend any other garages locally im afraid.

Personally I would rather use a different garage to QST because of the experiences i have had with buying bits from them.

Yep would also recommend The Autopool in Iver, they are competent, deal with plenty of S2's and Rs2's so they know their way round a 5pot audi.

They gave me a quote for complete change of suspension, replacing a worn diff oil seal and 4 wheel alignment and it was pretty accurate....a feat not achieved in other places i have had work done....no names mentioned!!!!!

            Cheers and welcome!

Thanks for the reply and the offer of help. Unfortunately I have no skill or experience in car mechanics so what I am looking for is the easy option where I pay for the work to be done.
I have booked the S2 into Autopool, which apears to be the nearest option to me I will let you know how I get on.

              Thanks

Welcome, and I would second that, Auropool have serviced my S2 for the last 7 years and know their onions when it comes to older Audi's....

Enjoy the forum it is the Best.

When i went to buy shocks from them i phoned around for a few quotes, qst came out cheapest. Then when i called back 15mins later the price suddenly rose quite alot but since the car was in bits by then i didnt have much choice but to ordered them.

So they still service S2's? I had heard that they don't touch the older Audi's now, or is that just the tuning side that is "LAPTOP" only??

                      Cheers,

                      Steve.

I know they will not 'modify' them anymore. Mainly because they do not have much demand for it. I'll check on servicing tho'.
Hope they haven't or else I'm looking at somewhere new....

At Castle Combe they weren't prepared to touch the S2, i enquired about if they did a Miltek exhaust for the S2, which i got the response "Miltek dont produce an exhaust for S2"... so off i trot to QST the stand RIGHT next to the AMD stand grab the Miltek leaflet and promptly show the Miltek exhaust listing for the S2 with price.

The muppet went "Oh, i didn't know that"

                            Not exactly a confidence filler!
