Buying an S2 - a couple of questions

Hi guys, apologies if this is in the wrong section but I'm new to this! Been lurking on the forum for a little while but having sold my Corrado VR6 recently I'm finally in a position to be looking at buying an S2.

Anyway, I went to look at my first one on Saturday which was nice but not the one, however it did bring up a couple of questions - firstly what oil pressure should a healthy S2 be running at? The one I saw was running right up near 5 bar. Is this normal?

Secondly, can anyone tell me the definitive weight difference between the Avant and Coupe? Heard a few different weights quoted so I'm a bit unsure (I'm looking at later ABYs if this makes a difference)

With any luck I should be a fully fledged S2 owner soon! Cheers

    Jack

    Check out this guide

5 bar pressure is normal at cold idle... it will drop once warmed up but return to 5 bar with a bit of throttle.

my tip would to be patient! took me a long time to find the one i wanted! im still looking (think its a habit!) but there hasnt been another one id have wanted so when you find it, you'll know!!

oil at 5bar when cold at idle, drops to 1.5-2 when warm. when you're driving will be back up to 5bar.

keep your eye out for usual things, bushes, water leaks, oil etc. check if the diff lock works, any smoke during boost. The s2central guide is very good!

Whats your plans for an s2? project or want a perfect (or as close to) car?

where abouts you from? might be worth visiting a forum member.

Thanks for the replies, that S2 central site looks really helpful cheers.

I'm not in a hurry which is an advantage. I work in central London during the week and don't drive in so this would be very much a weekend car, plus I'm currently building a BMW E30 track car at the same time so financially it doesn't make too much sense to rush in!

I'm looking for a project but I want to start with something pretty mint, especially body wise.

Basically with the Corrado I had previously (see below) the focus ended up being on the looks. It had all the usual trick bits engine-wise but at the end of the day it was FWD and this time I want to focus much more on the performance side of things.

Hence I'd like something with a mint body so I don't have to spend too much time and money on that side of things (well that's the plan at least, I say all this now but I know it'll end up with about 3 sets of wheels eventually!)

Ideally I'm looking for a Coupe but haven't ruled Avants out. I'm based between High Wycombe and Oxford by the way if there are any forum members in the area.

        Cheers
