    K&N Fitting Guide

Hi Guys, just bought a K&N replacement filter for my coupe part no. 33-2001. Had a quick look to see how to fit it and it doesnt seem that easy.

So I thought ok, best buy a haynes manual and that will show me, but No, apparently they dont make them for the coupe according to haynes.com.

Is there a haynes manual available for our cars or even a fitting guide somewhere on the net, or could anyone enlighten me on this subject?

    Thanks
    Rosco

    Hi Rosco,

As you found out there is not a S2 Haynes manual, only the S2forum BTDT manual between a few hundred members!! To fit the filter is a walk in the park. There are 4 spring loaded clips that hold the top half of the airbox to the bottom half of the airbox. Flip open the clips lift up the lid, pull the old filter out, put new filter in, pay attention to which way out the old filter came, ie rubber lip at the top. Bear in mind a lot of people are no longer fitting the K+N as it may foul the MAF with oil from the filter which meeans you have to clean the MAF a lot more than you would normally.

i looked into getting an induction kit...in the end i contacted the companies directly....most were really quite helpful. For a (large) Price piper would build an awsome system to fit...they said they might knock a bit off as it would be development...this is sometimes a good tactic i used this on my supra nd gotta full induction kit from bmc in carbon fibre cheap. but at the moment its a bit out of my price range the one piper offered. However there are some universal induction cones which will fit from almost all the air filter companies.
p.s it is much quicker if you phone them directly and then order wat you want from the parts desk at halfords.

        Ross,

Are you sure this K N is for your car? Mine has the ribs in the cross direction, not like the one you show here.

yeah that K&N doesnt look like the right one to me unless the 3B fitment ones are different to ABY version but it certainly doesnt look like the on I have on my ABY.

33-2001 is listed in K&N catalogue as S2 1991> ( and half the Audi, Ford and Volkswagon motors on the road) but it doesn't give another listing for a later (ABY) model . It does give a listing for RS2 33-2768 but no other applications are listed for this filter.
Looks like 33-2001 is the correct filter, but catalogues ain't always right!

Fitted mine not that long ago and yes ABY is the same as RS2 and not the one in your pic (yours is for the 3B i think), this link shows aplications for the correct one and it does list a non-us S2... http://www.knfilterchargers.com/sear...x?Prod=33-2768

Yep, I had this problem too.....

The one in the pic is for 3B. (Rectangular shape).

The one listed for RS2 also fits ABY and is more square in shape.

                    Hope this helps!!?

                      ABY Part No.

The K&N part number is 33-2029 for the ABY (=> RS2?). I fitted one 2 months ago. Didn't make a huge difference but what the hell. You can always put it in your signature! Give the MAF a clean before/when you fit it and all should be well for a while. (I used brake cleaner... ).

Check out a previous thread that got everyone confused if you're interested. Click here.

Just stumbled across this post, just to confirm, I'm lacking a turbo and a few valves. I have a 2.0 16v so this K&N does fit mine..... Until I save up enough for my S2 I'm just reading and learning from these forums.

                              Hi,

bytheway, this element also fits the 2,8 V6 coupe quattro, my other car......and when I tryed if I can put it in the ABY it was so hard to close the top of the filter box that I almost cracked the clamps. So somehow they differ.
