  • Samco Coolant Hoses - clip sizes and fitting

They are all here and accounted for. PMs have been sent to everyone who paid requesting if they want them posted or collected at the garage meet.

BIG problem with posting them is that Royal Mail is on major strike action at the moment where I live so I am VERY unwilling to post anything due to the backlog and delays.

I don't really want to fill the car up with frickin Samco boxes en route to Greg's but if it comes to that then so be it. Information on clip sizes to follow.

Clip sizes for water kits 1 & 2 are as follows -

    2 x Clip A (10-16mm)
    2 x Clip B (12-22mm)
    10 x Clip C (16-27mm)
    4 x Clip D (20-32mm)
    4 x Clip E (25-40mm)

Certainly those are the quantities and sizes I recorded with the sample set on my car - which I never shared photos of yet. Gimme a mo...

The OTHER thing I recommend people get is a short length of that industrial polythene pipe wrap to protect one of the hoses where it runs close to other pipes on the car. The OEM hose is heavily reinforced in this area. I used the pipe wrap for equal peace of mind.

    Photos & info to follow.

No idea - I got mine from the brother in law - he's an HGV & train mechanic... He said it was easy to get from automotive wiring suppliers. I'll look around.

Part 3 - uhhhhhhhhh - oh yeah.... Very briefly here -

Firstly make sure your heater control is set to maximum heat.

After all hoses are securely fitted, open the bleed screw on one of the hoses that connects thru the bulkhead to the heater matrix.

Start filling the system with the appropriate mix of water and coolant into the expansion tank. The system takes about 6 liters to fill, but you can get about half of that in before starting the engine.

Start the engine, and allow it to gently warm up. Remember there is great risk of scalding yourself on the water hoses. Be especially careful of any steam coming from the bleed screw.

As the engine warms you should see the water level in the expansion tank (as the thermostat opens) - keep topping it up until you see water coming from the bleed screw. This should be free of bubbles. Tighten the bleed screw - but be careful not to overtighten it.

Fit the cap onto the expansion tank. You can let the engine run until the radiator fan starts up - keep checking for any coolant leaks.

Believe me its tricky tightening that bleed screw shut with the hot water about the place - be careful.

Let the car cool down so that you can check the coolant level in the expansion tank... Adjust coolant level on cold engine as necessary.

                        Hi,

Is this the type of protective wrap you used, or is it a self adhesive thing?

                        Cheers,

Lovely - looks just the ticket... If I can buy a wadge of this I'll include it in subsequent batches of water kits.
