Continuous up hill, with pulse i get to much welding material if i insist of getting good penetration. Are you using pulse with low wire speed?

I just noticed your pics. Are u pushing the torch into the joint when welding or dragging the torch if you know what I mean ? Coz u push with mig and tig so the gas will protect against porosity better

      Push tig and mig
      Pull. Arc

That weld was pulling. You are right about that. There are lots of push vs pull discussions.I do them both depending on situation.Maybe if you will get an up hill tube weld you will memorize tech and share with us the best method you use to get good penetration and aspect.

Vertical continuous welding is mainly done with arc welding for best result . It's a bit of an art . Mig is very untidy but can e done be U get tomuch heat And the weld pool drop away. Maybe u could go on a short course.

No with the pulse Have the welder set up as if u are goin to weld on the flat So a little faster . Put a good strong tack. Move round slightly and do another strong tack. Of uniform size. U can do this at any angle start at th bottom of the tube work up both sides. Defo neatest way for beginners To do a vertical pipe weld with a mig .

          I'm off. Have fun

I thought the first pic looked like u had pulled the torch rather than push. i couuld be wrong ofcourse . It's just the way I was told .

You can do both but as a rule of thumb where u can push the gas into the work. Less chance of oxygen getting weld. There for better penertrasion .

Everyone got different techniques it depends on where your doing it , what material. Etc But I would want it right for safety I'm no pro

the book i have is pipefitting and welding but there are more pipe welding procedures looks ok to . on amozon

back to one off the questions you ask last night about continuous vertical mig when i do it i use the same method as arc welding

turn the power down a bit ( depending on thickness of material )
wire speed i set slower , but have a play about with it

it may be easier to do a test peace on the bench tack a tee filet together then tack it to the bench (vertically ) facing you , but sloping away from you . say 10 degs

hold the torch at 45 deg to the work and try this :-

the technique i use is like a christmas tree triangle on top of a triangle so you start at left side flick to the right side . then into the center of the joint . then back down to the right 2/ 3rd of your first triangle , and repeat towards the top . i flick from side to side quite quickly and hold ever so slightly longer in the center of the joint to get the penertrasion . but the cycle should be done quickly so you dont get a lump in the middle of the weld and put to much heat into it . ( the thinner the material the quicker you need to go )

hope you can understand what i am on about . its much easier just to show someone .

That is how I normally tackle vertical runs

That kind of pattern with the torch as you work up the joint
