    Octane Booster

With the demise of Maxol's E5 motion lotion in Ireland, which had a higher octane rating (98-100) than U/L 95, which is the best of the octane booster additives available in the motor factors?
My S2 gained a noticeable increase in torque as well as slightly better spool with the E5.
Have any Forum members had good or bad experiences with aftermarket products?

      Hiya,

Maxol in Bray don't stock it anymore. I'm told Maxol are going to water it down a bit so our octanes are dropping down to 95.

            toluene

octane boosters were used by most subarus i knew of which were imports. jap maps were a bit more agressive. it saved a fair few RA's for sure

ive always been dubious of the effect.

cant really see any eway to increase the fuel to e5 level tbh.

I will be looking into toluene as we don't have such high octane fuel in Malta either..possibly around 95 octane only. Would about 10 litres to a tank be safe yet effective?

I think you need to look into ratios a bit more...
Toluene also retards flame speed, which is the same as retarding ignition timing, so you will lose power if you put too much, unless you map for it.

Thanks Dmitri, I'm on a homefriend chip from Paul Nugent with stock hardware, I'm not even sure what a standard S2 is meant to run on in terms of RON ratings let alone a mapped one? Cheers

An S2 should use RON 98

The closest 98 octane available is in sicily..unless I go for a boat trip and spend 1,000 euros to keep a supply for 8-9 tank fulls of 98 octane it's not worth it

None of that stuff here, just regular unleaded or diesel. Going to meet the local sunoco man and see what he can offer me, he suggested 102 octane racing fuel to be mixed at 20%, he said he knew about the S2 and suggested not using Octane boosters due to the ceramic valves. Let's see and hope it's not too expensive.

Toluene price locally is at 77 euro for 25 litres which at that price I'd rather pay a bit more and go for racing fuel IMO.
