    S2 battery cable routing

I'm in the process of swapping my US spec 90 into an S2. I bought a battery lead from an S2 to put the battery under the rear seat but I don't know how it's normally routed. Does anyone have some pics of the cable routing they can share with me?

Easy it runs from the battery to the engine bay

But in all seriousness, I put mine in the trunk behind the gas tank and ran the wire along the passenger sill. Then poppped it into the engine bay and used one of those big breakers.

The cable I got appears to run directly to the starter. I'm not seeing a place where it would route through the firewall either. Maybe the U.S. cars don't have the hole there or a plug to remove?

In S2 saloon/avant battery is located in left side of boot. Cable runs over left arch, under rear seat to right side of the car, then to the front, through firewall inside right frame rail, out from frame rail under inlet of airbox and attaches to starter motor. There is no holes for it in firewall and frame rail in non-S2 cars so you have to cut your own or think for different routing.

Good idea is to add charging/jumpstart terminal inside engine compartment as S2 doesn't have it. There are various options for it but best I've found so far is from BMW E36 6cyl.

Cool thats the info I was looking for. I knew where the routing went in the car but was unsure up at the fire wall. The link with the pics was helpful too. That gives me a good reference point as where I need to make a few holes.

i ran mine along the drivers side of the car. passenger side in the states.
used one of the procon holes and the side channels where the cables went to the seat belts. then followed the rear loom into the back down that side.

i used the battery tray from the front. it fits near perfect in the back right corner on a b3 saloon.

GazzaG60 did you have to modify the floor at all or just weld in the battery tray? My car is a B3 sedan/saloon as well.

                  no welding.

one hole in tray lined up with the plates on body side. one on back panel. then made a bracket. totally sturdy and removable. i took care when cutting it out of the engine bay. removed the bracket off the bottom so its just the full flat battery tray. i was amazed how easy it was to locate in a good position. couple of tiny trims to carpet in boot and its in with full factory carpet in tact.

the battery earth from front fits in and goes over a bolt perfectly on back panel.

the tray fits in the recess on the passenger (on yours in US) in rear corner of boot. cables then run using factory routing into main cabin. one i run using the factory wire route under rear bench down left hand side of car to the front footwell where it connecs to my old wire to fusebox. this used to run through the bulkhead from battery at front. main starter wire runs straight down right hand side of car.

Quick update on this thread. On the US B3 chassis 90 Sedan (Saloon) there is no area to place the battery under the rear seat. I am going to mount mine in the trunk (boot) since the cable will still reach. Also there are no holes for the battery cable through the firewall and frame rail but I am going to drill the holes and run it through there anyways as it will make for clean mounting and routing of the cable.
