Best way to deal with Norway forum member from Canada

Hi there, I am trying to conclude a deal with a Norway member (I am in Canada), is there a preferred way so it is safe for both of us for receiving payment and merchandise ?

We don't want to use paypal.

We are currently going for creating an Ebay sale and concluding it through there.

Is there a better way ?

Also maybe a preferred carrier (cheapest maybe) to Canada for a 3kg item that fits in a box ?

    Cheers

Bank transfer. Here when you pay something with transfer you have a"reason for payment"box to fill in.That could be for example:goods,used/good condition headlights.
If you pay fees for 10 paypal transfers(including currency conversion) you could just pay a set of headlights and recieve a mirror, and accept that.Risc and benefit, pure math.
If you buy things over some hundreeds of eur, usd, cad, gbp, things should be different, others approaches needed. But for something that costs as a dinner in town for you and your lady....bank transfer should be fine.

ebay won't help you out unless you pay via paypal, why not just use paypal at least then you are covered.

Where were you for the last few days as a deal between forum members went t@ts up because they didn't use PayPal to conduct the transaction? I have bought lots of stuff with PayPal and always feel good about the security it gives if something goes wrong, like some random person finding your parcel and swapping the goods out of it and replacing them with a Jetta (Bora) door mirror for no sane reason.

Courier (DHL, etc) is a safe way to send but there are extra brokerage fees involved. I think I would just use the Postal system with tracking and insurance and a signature at the receiving end. That has worked well to me in Vancouver (so far).

I thought EBay would give us both some form of "security" since it'll keep trace of the goods that were suppose to be part of the transaction...

I'm a believer in the honour system and PayPal and all, haven't had any issues yet.

Bank transfer seem complex for a transatlantic transaction.

          Thanks for your inputs guys.

          Cheers

Honour system and paypal ar very opposite to each other, I think
I would create an use a paypal account. Just at the moment there is a thread from a guy who paid hundreds of euros for a pair of lights and got an old mirror. He is f****d up- the money is away, no chance of getting it back. The seller says, he has sent lights.

It is honouring you, that you believe in honouring system at trading. But these times are gone and away, forever. And for me it looks like especially in eastern europa and parts of the old russian empire scamming is kinda well-known hobby, as sad to say that.

PayPal is pretty painless, not sure why you wouldn't use it.

If you're trying to cut down on fees, send as transfer to Friends/Family, instead of a Goods/Services transaction.

Then you can use the honour system and hope he sends the parcel, as the Friends/Family transaction doesn't have insurance.

STRONGLY DISAGREE . If you send money as a gift to Friends/Family, the parts that you want are not listed in the transaction AND you the sender get dinged the 4% or so PayPal fee. If the seller does not ship, you have no recourse because you sent money with no obligation on the receiver to do anything other than accept your money. If it goes t@ts up, you're toast.

MUCH BETTER (In my opinion and experience), to PayPal as goods and services with the items you are buying listed in the transaction and add 4% to the payment so the seller gets the originally agreed amount at the end of the day. That way if you don't get your goods, you have a way to make a claim.

Paypal is good for buyer protection, it is not good for seller protection and is vulnerable to abuse by dishonest buyers at the sellers expense.

I normally buy via paypal, and pay the fees is required (it is worth the small % to me as insurance)

I reserve paypal gift for people I know.

LOL Dave... that's basically what I said. Send to friend/family gets you less fees but no purchase insurance; send as goods/services and you get higher fees with purchase insurance.

Sorry, you're still a bit confused.

If you send a gift of money, you the sender pay the PayPal fee, e.g. 4% or so. Nothing is free (it used to be but PayPal figured out that loop hole and now you pay the fee). Go that route and you just sent cash to somebody. They, the receiver, have no legal obligation to you. You can't get the money back if the deal goes sour.

If you pay for goods and services and list the goods, PayPal takes the 4% from the sellers account. You have a recourse if the deals goes sour and they agree that you should get the money back.

Thanks guys - we used Ebay.

The added layer of "insurance" is the fact that maybe we're both afraid of having a bad eBay review.

I agree on this one, paypal will always be in buyers favour no matter what evidence you'll put up.
