Depending on how bad they are and what sort of finish you want it's not that bad a job, just done all 4 of mine this morning, i used audi aluminium silver from halfords. It's the prep time and masking that is the hard part, and all for £15.00 worth of paint and materials, i could have just done with a 3rd can of paint and another lacquer, even did the centre caps too.

I have posted guides on this in the guides section!!!
The only thing i'm unclear on is, do you have to remove all the laquer before spraying and spray with undercoat?
Also Audi sell the paint for an exact match, also posted by me in the wheels section with part number
on the original 5 spokes i guess this is not easy as they have a diamond cut face which requires some machining once the lacquer is off. I guess the later style you can just strip down, prep and spray as Jamo showed on another thread.
Just to follow on from this. This applies to early 5 spoke only. *Don't* attempt to remove old laquer with wet and dry.. this will take days. I removed old laquer with paint/varnish remover.. a scoosh. Unfortunately this removes the anthracite paint on the lower part of the spokes also. Anyway once all laquer is removed - give it a quick rub down with really fine grade 1200 or so wet/dry, and then polish up as EricD says with Autoglym. This comes up a treat, and only took a couple of hours tops.
Only problem now is sourcing the anthracite paint for the rest of the wheel.. anyone?
