A 14 bhp gain on a vacuum cleaner is pretty good too.

I like objective little links like that - very good though seeing all the before/after rolling road results would be great to see what a 14bhp gain meant in terms of %age increase.

13-14bhp is a healthy gain to be had just from a filter, shame we couldnt get similar gains on ours. Still trying to work out how they managed to get the hoover on the rolling road though

I've seen conflicting reviews to this, with the HKS on NA car always giving superior BHP results.

Unfortunately no 2 cars are the same, never mind a vacuum cleaner.

When it comes to a cone filter, as long as you've got a cold feed to it and are happy with the results go for it!

Then theres folks like me who just buy the RS2 airbox for the sheer hell of it :mischeif:

The RS2 airbox is a good mod - its just not that well documented with any quantified gains. It would be great to get a solid week on the rollers trying out all sorts of air filters, exhausts, turbos, camshafts, chips, intercoolers and whatever else but it would cost a fortune.

I urge anybody thats doing mods like this to at least do some repeatable tests (safely) in a before/after fashion making note of ambient conditions as well.

A stopwatch is the bare minimum equipment needed, but having a GPS speed sensor, or something like a G-meter would be great. Of course VAG-COM can do logging for ABY engines but a reliable spreadsheet is needed to generate results from the raw data.

The problem with something like an air filter is that its gains are going to be most noticeable in the upper rev range which usually means you need an assistant and long stretches of safe open road or runway to do some tests.

Very true Paul, it's like the range of Carbon filters, that claim x bhp gain.

When you look at the dyno plot vs stock, the bhp is worse at low rpm level and only better at top range.

Funny you should say that, I know it has little to no relevance to you guys but I took the cone setup off my 7A over the weekend as the noise was really getting to me. Like you say around 6k rpms it feels more strangled but it goes a LOT better everywhere else. It’s also nice to use WOT without everybody else knowing..

If i noticed a difference you guys have to, as after all your sucking a lot more air in on boost than i ever will on WOT.

                      Mark.
