Hi,
This weekend we attended the king of europe contest in belgium (Mihnea, Cees, dougal and me) Saturday morning we had to do the technical inspection at 8 o'clock
This went all ok, except my backseat was rockin about, and we had to screw it down.
I really had to practise launching the car with that big turbo. To low RPM, and the car stalls. To high RPM all 4 tires will burn. Eventually it went ok. I started the first 2 runs with a 12,2 and 12,4 sec run. After that the times went only up instead of down. Probably because of the warmer wether and my crap starting. Mihnea had Tom on the phone for some strategical stuff. Shifting @ 6000 / 6500 RPM would result in a faster time......Thanks for the advise tom, I was doing 13 sec runs
haha.
Finaly times went down with more practise runs. And at the end of the qualifing day i was back at 12,3 secs.
That night we had a late night mapping session on the belgian roads. According to M. there was more power to gain. And it certainly did. It really felt more powerfull @ the higher RPM's, and thats with 200 kg's extra in the car; Doug and Mihnea
On the way back from mapping we almost got rear ended by a drunk AND asleep driver. He was coming at us from behind at consiberable more speed then we were doing (we were doing 120 km/h on the right hand lane) I steered the car on the service lane and he woke up at that time, pulling his steering wheel to the left, resulting in some serious oversteer, he tried to correct it by counter steering, rusulting him to oversteer the otherside, towards us. I really stood on the brakes., and he swinged right in front us ti the right lane again. And jammed it in the barrier. This dumb@ss was only cm's away from us performing his stupidity
At least no one had damage except him. Quite interesting moment.
So on sundays the practise session was from 9 till 11:30. We were just NOT in time. So we sadly missed the practise runs. At least we were qualified for the race in the super street 4 wd class, thats were all the big guns are in
So first run @ 4 o'clock I had to race a bloke in an first gen. EVO doing 11's. All hope was gone for winning this one. Suprisingly I beat him, because he had a crap start. While I had a clutch slippage in 2nd gear. Had to press the clutch again to get the grip back and continue in second gear. Time was 12,2 secs @ around 28 degrees outside temp. That meant we gained power from Mihnea's mapping session the night before. And I was through to the next round, quarter final
Had to race a bloke in a fully stripped Scooby.
This guy had a crap start aswell. So i was quite a bit ahead of him. Then I ****ed up again. I missed the gearchange from 2nd to 3rd..... Then he just flwe by me, doing an 11.something second run. My time was 12,4 with missing a gear. So that was it, time to head home. I really had a good feeling about it, altough we didn't make it in the 11's.
Better luck next time.
Cheers!!
The S4 on the picture had 500 HP doing 12,6 on the run! As you maybe noticed done by MRC
