For goodness sake use an open standard like MPEG or H.264 as these are the normal industry formats for video media on ALL computing platforms. Sadly the sheer volume of Windows XP users out there (with bundled video software and other proprietary crap they get loaded with) means that video clips get produced in non-standard formats that aren't even compatible across different PCs.
The solution is to use FREE tools such as VLC from www.videolan.org to convert AVI and WMV content in MPEG format (or H.264 which makes smaller files for the same quality). H.264 is also supported by Apples QuickTime 7 player - also free from www.apple.com.
Microsoft has NOT implemented the H.264 and related ISMA specifications. If you wanna get with open industry standards, then get away from Microsoft. Just my 2p...
