RS2 insurance

Hi guys,

bit of a strange problem....

Been trying to get insurance quotes for Audi RS2s and have discovered that the database of car stats used by (all???) insurance companies only have the production years down as 1994-1994. No mention of 1995. Let alone the cars registered as late as 1996.

Since several of you have got '95 cars I was wondering how you got round this problem, or does it just de-materialise when the insurance company sees several hundred pounds being wafted under their noses for your premium? I only ask 'cos i'm a bit nervous about buying a '95 car to discover that i can't even insure it to drive it home....

I'm insured with Directline and they didn't have a problem with the car being registered in 1995. I think I ended up ringing them up cause an Rs2 didn't seem to be in their list....surprise, then it took the lady about 10 mins to find it.

I managed to keep my 10% discount for applying online and the addded bonus of 0% installments. Was only £70 more than my VR6 fully comp and protected no claims. Car has a Thatcham 1 approved immobiliser and a Tracker fitted which are pretty standard.

I sent an email to the ABI (assoc of british insurers) about it last night.... just got a reply saying that my email has been bounced on to thatcham to see if they know what i'm talking about.

we shall see. anyone else hit this problem or were all of your insurers cool with it?

When I gave any insurance company my car's reg, they told me it was an RS2.
Fine by me, just waititng for them to supply the necessary items for the upgrade :mischeif:

i have also found that you sometimes have to say its an audi 80, then they can find the model from there. dont forgot the people on the end of the phone aren't paid to think.

This is a 'non problem' If you cannot sort online just ring them. I have had no problems with my 1995 RS2. It may just be the databases you have tried.
Go to 'confused.com' IIRC they have the RS2 listed via audi 80 'selection tree' and you will get a bunch of quotes. If it only shows S2 avant ring the best quote and do it over the phone !

I think its the near-universal one - hence my concern

Go to 'confused.com' IIRC they have the RS2 listed via audi 80 'selection tree' and you will get a bunch of quotes. If it only shows S2 avant ring the best quote and do it over the phone !

yup. you CAN get RS2 up on confused.... but ONLY if you enter year as 1994. problem is then you ring the company and explain the car is a '95 and they go "well it says here on my list that it was only made in '94".

anyway, so long as you guys have managed to bull**** your way past the monkeys then i'm less concerned.

Agree with alg - this is a non-problem - my car was built and registered in 1995 and I've never had a problem with various insurance companies e.g Priveledge, Norwich Union, Directline
