    The Kitten!

    Hi folks!

This is my first post to the forum, so bear with me if it's not perfect...

Hopefully you'll see a picture of my S2 below, the "Teutonic Kitten" (!!)

I've owned this car since March 2003, having owned several Audis before (I still have a 2.3 10v coupe quattro). It's a 1991 S2 (2.2), with engine modified by AMD in the UK (300bhp). Engine mods include uprated turbo, remapped ecu, RS2 intercooler and de-catalysed exhaust. Body mods are fairly obvious, with RS2 bumper (to suit the intercooler) and mirrors. The suspension has Bilstein inserts, and wheels are 8x18 OZ with 225/40x18 tyres. Very recently, I had the misfortune of hitting a deer  which broke the bumper, but I should be getting my baby back next week!

      Thanks Doug, much appreciated!

Not sure how the colour looks on your screen as these things vary, but it's a very dark grey metallic (jeez, I should know the name of the colour really!)

Costs me a fortune to run (16mpg) and gets used every day! I use Optimax which is actually well recommended by the engine builders, which hurts the wallet a tad more, but I'm not going to ruin this car by neglect!

From a performance viewpoint, "The Kitten" is reportedly capable of 170mph (I've not been there but I've been close, with power left over!) and is definitely capable of 0-60 in less than 5 sec ...enough to embarrass any factory TT including the new fangled 3.2 - and let's be honest, TTs are for hairdressers really!

In the future, I will be looking at better brakes, and maybe a bit more horsepower

BTW I'm looking for a throttle quadrant as mine is lashed together with ty-raps at the mo' ...unfortunately, you can't buy it from anyone official without buying a complete throttle body - a snip at £1,200..!! Might be able to get it sorted at work (I'm in the race car business) but if an original part crops up it would suit me fine!

Have you tried Martyn or Paul at www.vagparts.com ? They'll be around here at some time.

I certainly haven't seen the dark grey colour on many S2s - suits the car though - and the external RS2 bits set it off well.

The pic looks like you are parked on a runway - were you having fun?

        You have a PM.

          I'll check 'em out!

The colour is original, as marked on the documents, maybe it wasn't so popular when it was new?

The pic was taken on the day I bought the car and got it home (80 miles or so). It is a runway on a local airfield, but waayyy too bumpy for looning around on! I terrorised the local hot hatch crowd though, very amusing - now they know The Kitten exists and treat me with respect, which is nice.

Fortunately, I still find people who really don't understand what the car is, and they try their pants off. Sometimes I smile, and let them go.

          Sometimes

I've sent you a reply PM

Welcome to the board. Your motor looks sweet. It's nice to see another wheel variation too. It suits it. Are those the Superturismos?

I really like the colour. Got a view looking at it more from the front? The RS2 bumper looks like it sets it off a treat. Ceretainly looks great for a 1991 car.

I'll fourth the nice S2 comments! really rare colour too As Greg said, this quadrant you need, is that the throttle potentiometer you need on the back of the throttle body?

You can get that part, and it's a lot less than buying a whole throttle body! its £85.16+vat, a little less than £1200!! sounds like you need the screws and washers to fix her too, they'll add another £500 though ;-))

I wonder if the reason it's cable tied on is that the screw threads in the body may be stripped? m ight be worth looking at 1st, but I'm sure new threads could be put in.

Anyhow, welcome to the S2 forum, it's a great source of info, fun and general micky taking sometimes :-)

Thanks Lee and Greg, I'll try and answer those questions:

Yes, they are Superturismo wheels, these were on the car when I bought it - as with all the mods. I could be tempted to get the considerably lighter Superleggera wheels, but these are fine for now!

I'll see if I can sort out another pic for later, should be able to

Thanks for the compliments about the colour, I guess I'm lucky?!! The RS2 bumper is definitely a tasty looking mod, and so are those mirrors - I can tell when I park my coupes side by side!

By throttle quadrant I mean the curved channel and lever that is attached to the throttle shaft, the bit the cable sits in. Maybe you have a different name, it's something we call 'em at the racing factory. What has happened is that the separate plastic moulding for the nipple has snapped off - sometime in the past a brain transplant donor fitted a jubilee clip on the intake the wrong way around, so that the throttle stopped on it with travel to spare, meaning further pedal pressure broke it - so I have it lashed up for now (works quite well actually!) ...but on the plus side I also gained throttle travel, which is nice!

                  Cheers again guys

Hi Martyn, just seen your posting too, and thanks again for another compliment! I think I explained what I mean by the quadrant above, what do you think?

                    Cheers again!

yup, I gotcha now! know exactly waht you need now! Well it is indeed true! you cannot get that part on its own :eek2: to get that you have to buy the whole throttle body!!

Well we can supply you with a whole new throttle at @ £731+vat, rather than £1200!!, but I have a sneaky feeling that you may either A) leave it as it is or B, I think there will be many of these in the breakers. I would think that you can use one of these from many other Audi's, they are probably... all quite similar. Got to be worth checking into.

That's really bad that we cannot get that part on its own! If we could it would probably be about ten quid!

So moral of the story, when changing acc. cables, make sure we fit them right!

                      Martyn,
P.S What's your real name Mr Kitten sir? Keeper of The Kitten is a real mouthful to type!!

I kinda guessed you would say that Martyn! At least you can get 'em cheaper than elsewhere! As mentioned above, I can get a custom one made at work as we have been known to make a few bits (ok, we've made a few complete race cars in our time - there's a clue in my avatar...) - anyway, I've managed to run quite happily in lash up mode since I did the lash up!

Martyn, I'm Martin! Martin Cutting. Pleased to meet you all! When I'm not working in the race car business, I photograph pretty girlies (lucky me!) - as seen on my website - not for kids ...sorry kids!!

Ok, two more pics for you guys - one showing the front end in more detail, the other showing a modelling friend of mine, Charlie - enjoy!
