Scoobies equal piston slap, especially as the miles pile on, i believe it's a very common problem, considered buying one a while back in december last year, from cold jesus it was loud, no no no. I know subaru have replaced engines on this basis.

Ask yourself the question how is it that there a lot of high mileage 150k plus audi turbo engines out there still untouched since they left the factory????? Build quality is the answer, would you touch an EVO6 with 100k on the clock not likely

don't know what reg yours is Chris but I'd imagine renewing even for stock would make a huge difference, anything rubber gets sloppy over the years and replacing the dampers will probably make a significant difference.....

However I guess it depends on what you're looking to get out of the car if you want to belt along B roads I'd say leave it stock running my setup on a choppy b road means i just get chucked about and it's not as good as it was before i changed it. having said that on a fast twisty road mines great under breaking as there is much less roll and pitching under hard braking....

It's safe to say that if you want a scooby expereince, the S2 isn't going to provide for me it's like chalk and cheese between the two cars.....scooby: in your face S2: stealth

          A B S O L U T E L Y !

Mine is on 155,000 miles and is still has no been touched. It can still mix it with the porsches and evo's of this world and it doesn't look like anything.

As David says, they are chalk and cheese or fine steak vs mcdonalds.

And let's not forget that the Subaru has anappalling fuel consumption even in it's stock form. My brother in law had a WRX for about a year and he never could get it under 15l/100km (18mpg) and if driven normally, he always averaged 20l/100km ( 14 mpg ) and if driven real hard, he was down to a single digit in mpg !!!

It's the only reason he sold it BTW as he loved it. I have to admit that on a narrow, windy road, it was supreme... but it's true as well that as an Autobahn cruiser, it sucked big time.

havent got much to add to this thread, but just tap in impreza on e-bay or autotrader come to that and just see how many turn up?!?!
ive taken on 2005 wrx, not knowing at the time that my avant had a chip, and easily edged in front from the lights and neither of us were holding back but by 100 meters i had got at least 3-4 cars infront.
i dont have to mention the bad wearing plastic interior, or the bad image (well they did start life being driven round farms, with dead sheep in the back) haha.
but i have to say that you must have a lack of imagination to buy a scooby because there is so much more you could buy for they money of 1-2 year old model!

                  Scooby vs S2

Hi everyone, dont no if this will be a relavent point of you, but i used to have a 95 subaru wrx estate which i modified and ended up with 330.4 bhp and 350lbs/ft of torque at the flywheel and 260bhp at the wheels at 1.5 BAR boost.

Performance was 0 - 60 in 4.0 secs and would easily hit over 160mph with the upgraded 2003 sti 6 speed gearbox. Top speed was calculated at 194mph reving to 7000rpm in 6th gear.

Had abit of a drag race from the dartford bridge toll booths with a jaguar XKR from stand still to a undisclosable speed and left it for dead, and that was with 3 people in my subaru and only the driver in the XKR.

Scooby's are fun and do handle well but you have to do alot to them. The 5 speed gearbox is very weak and the engines are prone to detination on number 3 cylinder. Also interior is cheap and nasty, there also noisy and uncomfortable and are not very cheap to fix, as subaru will not help you if you have an imported car.

I got about 25 mpg on average out of mine at boost levels of up to 1.5 BAR.

I got rid of my subaru and i am currently looking for an S2 as the S2 is built better, stronger and are a better quality.

pretty respectable figures. what did you have to modify to reach that power? what turbo was it using?

It's not the car, it is usually the driver that determines the traffic light GP or the B road blast

One of my mates has just picked up his 54 plate Wrx sti with the PPP kit, should be about 305bhp. he's looking at getting a re-map and NOS too Last time he had NOS he was using 75bhp jets on his 172 cup, engine went bang

He'll do anything to try keep up with my Golf, thing is i want another S2 so i can match him with the 4wd
                          Cheers,

That was mapped well, the torque rises up and stays pretty much flat all the way thru, very nice!

I still wouldnt touch a nasty plastic jap crap car with a very long barge pole tho, a mate of mine has an Evo6 and yeh its quick, think his was recently RR'd at 305bhp but the ride is horrible, its so noisy and bumpy, its worlds apart from my S2 or my mates S3.
